Haven't seen it mentioned but he was welcomed on to the pitch at HT today.

I knew the story roughly. Spurs legend turned recluse. Alcoholism and ill-health suspicions. No one knowing where he was or how to contact him. So it was a major surprise when he came on. His first visit to The Lane in 40 years.

It was particularly enthralling for me as I loved The Glory Game and im half-way through Searching For Gilzean, so it's good to see him and some of his goals on the jumbotron.

Was great to see him in good health because a few years back there were very worrying rumours knocking about that he was unwell

Coincidently, the Glasgow Spurs supporters club has amongst its members, James Morgan, the author of 'In Search Of Alan Gilzean'. After the Lazio game on Thursday ( we watch all our games in the Rhoderick Dhu pub), James did a presentation about Alan, with some video clips, his intro into the Scottish hall of fame and also did a reading from his book. He made mention that Gilzean was due to be at WHL this week, for the first time in a long time. The guy is recluse who lives in Ireland. James is a top man, I'd recommend his book to any Spurs fan in to their history.

Gilzean was withput a doubt the "King od White Hart Lane" and half of the deadly G-Men with Jimmy Greaves. Just great that he was back at the Lane this afternoon.

Brought a tear to my eye seeing Gilly again. He was looking very fit and well and came out with his grandson. I was lucky enough to see him play and unless you've seen him you couldn't begin to believe how good this guy was.
I knew it was Gilly within the first few words of his introduction but couldn't quite believe it, he's not been back in almost as many years as I've been a Spur. I'd love to know the story behind how 'The King of Whitr Hart Lane' was tempted back.

A true Spurs Legend. Great to see you again. God bless you.

Dec 19th 1964 was his debut for Spurs If I'm not mistaken. The date my sister was born but my Dad chose WHL instead!!

Dad tells great stories of Gilzean. Sounded a fantastic player

He was an elegant player and an elegant man who left the game behind him when he retired I believe he lived and worked in Enfield but wasn't aware of any alcoholism rumours, everyone I knew that knew him just said he was a very private man.
That said I got goose bumps when I heard the introduction and guessed it was going to be him, lovely player a real class act, great to see him, great memories.

The boy sounded like mustard. Unfortunately before my time. He did look a little liker berba in the video they played at HT.

I tentatively clicked on this link wondering if he'd gone to that 'Great Football Pitch In The Sky'.

So glad this day will continue on a high. :)

He looked great today and had some lovely things to say about the club. Really nice that his grandson came onto the pitch with him as well.

I was one of the lucky ones and saw him play many times. He was a fantastic header of the ball and scored many goals with a deft flick of his head. In modern terms I agree that In style Berbatov is pretty close but Gilly was better with his head.

Good to hear he was back at the Lane and in good nick .

He managed Stevenage Athletic for a while I believe and was an acquaintance of our own Cosmic .

Exactly my fear too. Very pleased to hear it's the complete opposite.

My only regret when it comes to THFC is being born too late to shake the hand of the likes of Arthur Rowe etc. Great men who continue to inspire. In the realm of this football club anyway.

Gilzean and Greaves were my reasons for starting this roller coaster Spurs supporting ride.

The reason I enjoy this site so much is reading about the older fans memories of their heroes.
