Jan has been very impressive going forward for Belgium in the LB position. However, my favourite has to be Rooney labelled as the Worst Mover in the rankings :D

I've not read the article , but I'm assuming from the above post it is Vertonghen...

Playing really well....AT LEFT BACK . A position he spent most of a season raging about when playing for us , basically wandering around sulkily as if he'd just had a mouthful of last month's milk .

Great to see him in the WC playing brilliantly , like he did when he first arrived at Spurs, he is an enormous talent , partcularly strong going forward...which he rarely does from his preferred centreback position .

Who'd be a manager eh

It had to be SuperJan, didn't need to look. I'm really hoping he will be positive and put in lots of those wonderful crosses for us next season. When his attitude is right, he's fantastic and I hope Mo-Po will get him motivated.

Has to be Jan, he has the ability to be one of the best CB's around. Although i guess the experts at body reading will disagree with that.

It's interesting that during this WC his body language has looked no different than when he plays for spurs. For the belgians he also sulks, points and complains. Yet he plays on blinder after another.

It always makes me laugh that fans can tell by watching a TV screen and say his body language shows he does not give a damn. How the hell can they know that? he is a laid back guy yet the so called body language experts can tell :)

He also played so hard he was vomiting, so maybe as fans we shouldn't put to much credence into the body language of athletes.

Agree I'd noticed the same thing - in fact he's probably been even worse for Belgium as they've been frustrated by 'lesser' teams.

To be fair when this was put to him in an interview last season he did just say that it's just the way he is - he's naturally expressive on the pitch, but it doesn't mean he automatically doesn't care and wants to leave the club. He's just a bit of a sulky flappy-hand bitch when he's playing.

I don't think people who questioned Jan's body language and attitude are in disagreement that he's a very talented player. If anything that is what made is more frustrating.

Tbh I don't care whether he is a top 5 player in the world cup, I only care that he plays well for spurs.

You obviously have not been listening to the body experts among the Spurs fans. ;)

And he got this playing Left back in the main.

So maybe Jan should accept that he is good at that position, and man up and get on with playing there, solving our Left Back issue!

Whixh I don't mind if he delivers. Keane and Berna could be the same and I doubt anyone would argue that they didn't serve us well. Granted last season under Tim he wasn't the player we saw earlier, but then again our entire defence was a shambles.

It was obvious to myself and the guys that I sit with that Jan was unhappy last season. This happened to coincide with him playing left-back, and then the stories breaking that he really didn't want to play there. It was an obvious observation comparing his demeanour from his first season to last. I don't think you needed to be an expert in the field of reading body language!

Jan was captain of Ajax right? I am just surprised someone who is considered leadership material would act like that. Demeanour is important.

Guess I'm the only one who thought he was mostly a terrible left back. The amount of space he afforded wingers was nutz, and he was bring pulled all out of position. To be fair hazard was no help who did less tracking than andros Townsend and looked half the player of andros too!

However jan was good in an attacking since definitely. But left back not for him defensively

Jan is a good footballer, but not a great defender. He's comfortable on the ball, won't panic in tight situations, and will retain possession. He reads the game well, but pure defending is not his thing. He's a good left back when in possession and has good delivery, but not great when not in possession. Average pace and strength means he doesn't always come out on top in defensive situations.

Personally think he needs to have a rock of a central defender alongside him to get the most out of him..... would like him to stay only if he wants to stay, and think we need to buy shrewdly (not that we should ever do anything other!!).
