Club performances get your foot in the door to start with. Townsend has now consistently made an impact for Woy, so why would he drop him from his team/squad?
If anyone is stealing a place it's someone like Walcott, who has done little of note for Arsenal in recent times (admittedly injured) and bar one hat-trick has never done anything for successive England managers.

that doesn't explain why bertrand with no international pedigree and gibbs with next to none are picked ahead of rose though.

I did change my post after checking the left back situation but am I the only one who thinks Bertrand only got picked because he made the PFA team of the year
Alot of people disagree with me on Rose but he is better than Bertrand imo

bertrand certainly deserves to be there ahead of the likes of gibbs and shaw but there is a massive southampton love in currently, it's amazing how we're above a team full of so many apparently great players really.

I dont disagree but I think Roy has thought I only want one new LB and its either Danny or Ryan and gone well Ryan won the PFA award
As for Gibbs he shouldn't of been in the last squad since he wasnt playing for arsenal but I don't know if has overtaken Monreal for the starting spot

I remember reading when he was left out of the last England squad (He was only a late entry because of injury IIRC) that he was thinking about playing for Jamaica at senior level.
I couldn't blame him if he decided to do this now.

No one outside Spurs rates him, you only have to go on Bluemoon's transfer page and see the whole 'he's shit' 'not good enough for midtable, let alone us' type posts, yet you know they'll also be fawning over the likes of Bertrand despite the fact they won't have watched either, but because sky are wanking themselves silly he must be good. Creswell is another that's been overlooked and deserves to be above Gibbs in the pecking order too
I actually think Gibbs is a really good left back and I think he's better than Bertrand and maybe Rose too. That said, he's had a poor season and shouldn't be picked, certainly not ahead of Rose anyway. As I've said before, I think Bertrand's weak defensively but it gets covered up by the organised Southampton centre backs and midfielders that cut out a lot of the crosses and attacks he concedes down his side. Rose isn't the best positionally but I agree with Pochettino, he's been the best English left back this season and he should've been first pick for this squad.
This is probably the first time Smalling has actually deserved his pick for the squad but I don't see how Jones keeps getting in ahead of Shawcross. By picking the same old players regardless of form we're setting ourselves up for another "golden generation" with players getting to 80+ caps having done piss all for England, just like we had with the last lot(Beckham and Cole excepted, they earned their caps).

I do actually think Southampton have a better team than we do which is reflected in the goal difference. Maybe their squad doesn't have enough depth which is why they've run out of steam toward the end (we kind of have as well though), but looking at their first choice 11 there are quite a few players I would take in our team.

I think team Southampton has been good but better than Spurs nah. We've played more games got to a cup final and at present sit above them in the league, they also spent more money then we did during the summer.

Well how much they spent has little to do with anything. Being unbiased as possible I would say that Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Fonte, Clyne, and Mane would all be good enough to start for us. Possibly Bertrand over Rose if I'm not wearing my rose-tinted specs (pun intended).
