Was a great effort, but Spain were too good and deserved it.

A fabulous achievement though to make the final off the back of winning the Euros. Feel for Earps, did everything to keep em in it

5 - Spain are the fifth team to win the FIFA Women’s World Cup, after USA (4), Germany (2), Norway (1) and Japan (1). Prior to this year’s edition, Spain had only ever won one match at the tournament. Campeonas.

Wonder what the Spanish girls who boycotted the Spanish national team are feeling right now. They didn’t support the coach and the management and fair play to them, but what an experience to miss out on. Big price to pay, when seeing their mates coming home with a gold medal around their neck.
Even worse than that, they missed out on a once in a life time opportunity to be bored shitless in Palmerston north.

I don't really follow the women's game but obviously had a look in on this game, shame they didn't make it but they've given a good account of themselves in the tournament and should feel proud of themselves.
I don't know if it's a one off but I have come away with the sense that the standard isn't that high.

Dissapointing from England today, think Serena got it wrong, but you also have to give a lot of credit to Spain. they were very good technically and were just quicker and stronger.

The English players kept thinking they had more time to pick a pass and then got it pinched off them or pushed backward. Taking Russo off meant we had no focal point for far too long.

I thought Jess Carter was excellent tonight and whilst she can sometimes look a bit clumsy she did really well all tournament.

Great learning experience for them all.

Shame for England. Quite a likeable team and manager. But they were a bit route one tonight, sitting too deep and going too direct.

Surprised at the two subs at half time. Definitely needed a switch to back 4, but Daly and Russo can beat a player. Desperate stuff at the end moving Bright up top.

Good stuff by Earps to keep them in it, but Spain and their much disliked manager take the cup.

I'm English but fair play, we were done on the day by the better side.

They were technically better and much more composed.
I predicted we'd get to the semis at best, given the injuries we had before the tournament and thought more realistically we'd go out in the quarter final.

I can't fault our effort but very often effort alone isn't enough and eventually it will succumb to technical superiority.

The BBC media team today were cringeworthy and seemed to be handing the trophy to England before a ball had been kicked and that Spain were there just to make the numbers up. That was an arrogant prediction given how many Champions League winners Spain have in their team. How wrong they were, much like Roy Keane yesterday proclaiming at half time that Spurs were there for the taking by Man Utd and that it was only a matter of time before Man United would run out winners by 3 or 4 bt the end of the game. Two examples of rank bad biased punditry today and yesterday with both ending up looking daft and stupid with the predictions.

This Spain team have definitely moved up a couple of notches in the last couple of years, and I can see parallels between this team and the men's national team where they went on to dominate between 2008-2012.

4 years ago under Phil Neville, prior to the World Cup, England lost to New Zealand.

I don’t think it’s a matter of if but when England will win the World Cup. I don’t think it’ll be too far away.

It'll take at least four years in my opinion.

The girls did brilliantly tho get to the final, bit I thought we were pretty poor today and the manager got it horribly wrong with the tactics in the first half and then followed it up by making two strange subs. To be fair we were much better second half, but we never really looked like scoring.

Absolutely brutal. Score the winning goal in the final then find out your dad died the day before and your family had to decide not to tell you.

I don't know her or her family and what was going on with her father. Not for us to judge the decision as it is entire based on how we would want to find out.

Seems fitting that the biggest WWC has ended with a #MeToo moment.

The coach and the head of their FA being pulled up for the kiss and for groaping/grabbing, shameful from them and ruins their Women's teams big moment.

This thread is just one long fucking hell. To have this be the tournament's legacy for the winning nation is just sad.
