Out a fortnight today, apparently. 9am.
Given Levy's transfer window predilections, let's hope we have an "easy" opening 3-4 fixtures. Hull at home anyone? Followed by Palace away?

Last few years we've not had an easy first game

2010 - Liverpool at home
2011 Man City at home
2012 - Everton at home (ended up being Man Utd away due to the riots)
2013 - Newcastle away

We're certainly not due a home start as we've had plenty of those recently, but a game against a team who didn't end the previous season in the top 6 would be nice.

TV always have a big say in these things, so I'd imagine they will want to focus on Chelsea and Utd in the first weekend. Wouldn't be at all surprised if they threw up a big match for Mourinho straight off. It wouldn't be against us (think the police would object to a London derby on the opening weekend) and Sky will resist a clash between 2 of the top 4 so early, so can envisage them starting at home to either Liverpool or Everton.

Moyes will probably be given a home start against one of the promoted sides (Palace perhaps as the media love Ian Holloway), and then its anyone's guess who the rest of us will face. Cardiff vs either City or Arsenal is another obvious option to allow Sky/BT to showcase one of the promoted sides and a Champs Lge contender early doors.

Suspect we'll get an away trip to the likes of Swansea

No games easy, aslong as the derby isnt the opener.

Want a top team at home first game. We'll be up for it and if we get the victory then it will really kick start our campaign. As for what I don't want then that would be an away game against a lesser team or promoted team. I'm convinced if we played in one of those first game we'd do our usual pathetic opening day display.

I want Liverpool at home. Suarez and Sturridge missing as well would be a bonus.

Agree. At home to Utd for me if possible. Much rather start hard and see how we go.

You al seem to be forgetting that until September 1st, we won't have anything like our best team available as we won't have finished assembling it.

Exactly. That was the point of my OP.

Always interesting to wait for the fixtures list. Then I can start to book flights and make plans. Love it.

With a little calculating, you could probably predict who we will have for the first game of the season, or at least narrow it down to 3/4 teams.

To be honest, rather than our last minute transfer dealings (as that can sometimes pay off for some clubs) I find it more annoying that the transfer window doesn't shut before the 1st game of the season.

We won't start with back to back away games.

Cardiff away was also doing the rounds. Think I predicted Swansea away a while back.

Well we won't get another London team, so that rules out Arsenal, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham and Spam. It won't be Newcastle because we had them first last season. Spurs v Man Utd probably constitutes too big a game to have on the opening day, and although we've had both Shitty and Liverpool as opening day fixtures in recent seasons let's apply that to them too. I doubt we'll get Villa as we always seem to be paired with them around Boxing Day/New Year.

Which leaves Cardiff, Everton, Hull, Norwich, Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea and West Brom. Just under half the league. Any reasons to rule any of them out?

It doesn't have anything to do with who we had first game last season, but more to do with what is happening in the country that day.
