Arsenal fans will have woken up this morning after the euphoria of spending 42.5m on one player and thought "fuck...we still have a pretty weak squad defensively."

This

Let's see what they're like during the busy Christmas schedule

I believe that we were the only club to have a 100% run over Christmas last season - that's what a SQUAD gives you :)

Ozil is a wonderful footballer, superb at drifting around and finding space. He'll have a field day with some of the lumps in the EPL.

It does annoy me that Ozil and Mata, 2 of my favourite players in world football play for Arsenal and Chelsea - hopefully Eriksen can be our little magician.
I have to agree with this. I have always been a big big fan of Ozil and am so sorry that from now on i will have to hate him.

Mata - pretty much same applies.

Özil was made in Schalke. Probably the best footballer to ever come out of Gelsenkirchen and now look where is. Positives are at least they didn't get Draxler! :(

This isn't suggesting Draxler is better than Özil.

I almost liked just because of the Eriksen gif. I'll suggest it though, Draxler would have made me think twice but Özil doesn't

A penny for Real Madrid's fan's thoughts today. Losing Ozil + £40m and getting Bale effectively...

i'm torn between wanting to see one of the world's great players actually play vs the inevitable vomiting at watching him run out for a scumbag bunch of woolwich gimps...

Why are you watching Arsenal players run out? Do you tune into their games instead of ours by mistake? :)

Losing Ozil? They didn't want him, they signed his replacement for 30m EUR Isco who is Spanish and has scored goals for them already.

Very happy I should think.

Ozil is a fantastic footballer, no doubt about it. He will change a 1-0 into a 2-0 and a 2-0 into a 3-0. However, what Arsenal desperately needed, was a player who can prevent a 1-0 from becoming a 1-1.

They have always had a superb attacking prowess about them, but they have always and still have defensive frailties. Lamela and Eriksen can exploit that.

Like Flamini did on Sunday you mean ?

To be honest, I think Ozil replaces what they have lost steadily over the last few seasons, the likes of Fabregas etc. Players that create cast iron chances by the bucket load.

I was feeling quite positive about our relationship with Arsenal actually starting to even out, especially after Sunday's performance - the best at there place for many years - but they have just signed one of the cleverest players in Europe, and picked up a good busy **** for fuck all while no-one was looking.

I still feel good about us, but think Arsenal's season may just have got a whole lot better.

ManU on the other hand.....

I know nobody watches football and just judges games based on their addiction to video games......but while Ozil is a really good player with a lot of ability, he's also completely capable of going missing and not always one to step up when needed. Remember this kid just couldn't quite get it together at Schalke, got send to Werder where Diego carried him for a year. He then had a really great year and was the last bit of tape holding Bremen together. And I can never tell at Madrid. It's hard to standout either way with that much talent.

Would I have taken him? Sure would have. Probably not after our attacking purchases considering his price. But a huckuva player and one that can help many many teams. Can he help them in England? That will be an interesting question.

But let's remember, we spent nearly 10m less on the combination of Holtby, Lamela and Erikssen. We got a better deal with significantly more versatility, more upside and two that can handle the pace/physicality of the league. My thought is that all four will be fine at the end of the day.

And for comparison, Ozil basically dragged, a traditional power imploding on bad purchases in Werder Bremen to 3rd in his final year (having been 10th the previous). Holtby would take Mainz with no money to 5th a year later (and they had been 9th previous and 2. before). The only other player from that Mainz side was Schurlle who is looking to prove his worth. But Marin was Ozil' foil at Werder in that last year and he has struggled.

Pretty sure you don't need an ITK to explain to you why Ozil would prefer to join Arsenal over Spurs.

No your are right because that was not the question. My question was if we had shown any interest in signing him as even though we have Lamela and Eriksen, Özil would fill our need of someone who can feed Soldado with some slick passses, plus make us forget about that fast bloke...that has a good left foot...ah..forgot the name already...

The answer is in the ITK read only section.

I remember having the same feeling I do about Ozil signing when Arshavin joined arsenal. And after a couple of games I remember not caring, hopefully the same story.
