Can't see anything but 5th now - which I think considering the squad we have and the money we've spent will be a disappointing result.

The problem with the Europa League is we never seem to play well in it. It always seems to be a grind where we eke out some ok results but never put in a performance. Add that to the pretty dismal performance we put in to the domestic cups this year and the prospect of EL doesn't excite me at all.

At least the players seem to raise their game for the Champions League. We've got much closer to winning the CL than the EL over the last decade or so. I think the idea some people have that we're better in the EL because we're not ready for the CL is probably just a coping mechanism for the poor performance we've had over the later part of the season.
Are you forgetting we sold possibly the best player in the history of the club in the summer? If you remember many pundits and fans alike thought we would be lucky to end the season in the top half as a result.

No, I'm not forgetting that. The squad now is stronger and more balanced than when we had Kane.

Which should be celebrated. Having said that, we do still have a huge 30 goals a season hole in that squad.
No we don't. Richarlison has got some of those missing goals, as has Johnson, as has Son playing centrally more often. Just because Kane isn't around doesn't mean we're now playing with 10 men.

We're actually scoring more goals per game than we did last season with Kane.

Let's be honest. Anyone saying they prefer europa league over CL are lying to themselves

But there are some benefits. It would give players like Dragusin and some of our promising youngsters including beegvall real exposure in competitive games. Might also attacct more youngsters with the promise of first team football in Europe. Also if taken seriously enough we could actually win it

Yet everyone acknowledges we need significant investment in our front line.

We've had significant investment in our front line. Roughly £200m over the last 3/4 seasons. The only way similar investment is going to be sanctioned is if we take a loss on some of those recent investments and shift them out so I don't think people should be getting their hopes up for a frontline overhaul across the summer.

Maybe a more prolific striker than Richarlison would be good but honestly where are we going to get one of those for the kind of money we're liable to spend. Look at our history of buying strikers.

Better central midfield options and more competition at full back considering how important they are to Ange's system seem like the priorities to me.

But would we score more with him?

I agree. A proper DM to play this system is key, as is having backups for Porro and Udogie. If we can address that this summer i'll be quite happy.

Add a striker to that and that's a bonus IMO.

Yea surely no-one 'prefers' EL to CL but some are choosing to see the positives and are just admitting that right now in our development under Ange it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world having EL next season.

If we were in year 4 of Ange's reign and hadn't qualified for the CL then it would be a big problem missing out as we'd not be developing + we'd have missed out from the CL money for too long which would also effect our transfers etc.

We are exactly where we deserve to be based on our performances across the whole season, no better no worse.
I don't agree. In my view we've won a number of games simply because the other team haven't taken chances, or where they've generally played better and not won, whereas I feel there have been far less occasions where we have lost when we should have won which would balance that out. Of course gaining points when not playing well (sometimes helped through sheer grit or determination) is a skill in itself and deserves praise.

My point though is that I won't be disappointed if we don't finish 4th as I don't think we deserve to. Of course if we turn up, play well and win some of the big fixtures to come to finish 4th then that would change some of the complexion but I can't see that myself.

Who cares about the money the Champions League brings in.

We can just build a second go kart track on the roof and bring in the money that way.

Sorted.

Why not do both and have even more money to reinvest.

As I said, Liverpool not all that, shouldn’t be in the the title race and this loss will be them more or less out of it now. I fancy us to do them at their place as well. I think Koop and this team are done now.

We need to stop Arsenal and we need city to win all their games.
