I think he is still way off matching what Pochettino was doing. Poch teams played high line football but were still much adept at grafting and winning the dog fights. This was evident by how much we win during the Christmas period owing to our superior physical conditioning and graft. Currently I feel as if Ange team cannot match high intensity coming their way

the only thing I don't like is that dragusin sub, we lose so much control and we can't keep the ball for shit when it happens

It should work in theory but it really doesn't imo, going 3 at the back
It happened again

People bemoan lack of options but Man Utd's best player is an 18 yo. that's only playing because FFP wouldn't let them sign a CM and they had to get Amrabat on loan

I hate this notion that you have to certified PL players on the bench

If you're so wedded to a system, don't then compromise the system for "better quality"

Compared to our Poch's prime years with us then yes, but compared to Poch's first season we're looking better now.

I don't understand some of his choices with the late subs. It's surely not enough time to be considered a rest for the players coming off, it just seems so chaotic. Almost like he thinks the game is done and it doesn't matter who he throws on, they just need to run around a bit and see it out. I'm sure this isn't what's actually going on but it sure feels like it sometimes.

Let’s pause on the inquest, a bit. 3 games in 8 days, Goodson is always hard to go to (god they are such a fucking annoying crowd but they are so good at what they do), and a squad that is still missing some key components. It’s a shitty result when you consider we had the lead in extra time, but a draw was deserved and it is what it is. There are going to be ups and downs, we know this. I’m sure Ange will work with a full week to try and come up with some solutions. I’m all for calling a spade a spade, and Ange isn’t perfect, but some of the stuff you see is just a bit over the top.

There are a few things the coaching team needs to vastly improve on:

Defending corners
Defending free kicks
Throw ins
Seeing out games
Substitutions.

We’ve conceded 8 goals in or above the 90th minute this season. Most people probably saw this one coming too.

We had 3 physical and tall CB’s on the pitch when they scored their equaliser. We have to do better. Stop giving away stupid fouls is a start. But we always look shaky defending set pieces, it’s ridiculous considering the players we have.

Whenever Maddison goes off we lose all creativity. The last 10 mins was just defending because we had no one to create in midfield. Keep him on, even if he’s 30% fit. Or bring a Lo Celso type on. If there’s no Lo Celso, keep Maddison on at all times.

We almost always lose our throw ins in dangerous areas. Our frickin throw ins. Surely a bit of work on the training ground can help that.

Still, overall we’ve been amazing considering where we were in May. Just need to address these things and that could be the extra we need to challenge. And also 2-2 away at Everton is never the worst result but it’s so frustrating when we constantly give away late goals.

Love Ange, huge credit when he brought on PEH & Johnson last match but today imo Skipp & Gil on was a mistake and arguably Dragusin on was a mistake.

That being said it’s a process, we know Ange won’t change tactics so until we keep upgrading the squad we will have games like this where when Ange turns to Skipp & Gil off the bench our level will drop so instead of Killing off a game we end up drawing or losing.

Throwing Dragusin on for the last few minutes hasn’t worked in either game so far for me. Just seems to disrupt us as much as the opposition.

Agree. I could be wrong but I think Ange feels he should give him minutes when there’s no need to, because of his loyalty when moving to us. I’d have left him on the bench and maybe given him 90 next week or the week after and rested vdv or Romero.

Let’s be honest, we’re 6 months into this project and, in reality, well ahead of where most would’ve thought we’d be.

His system is showing signs of real success, it’s just not fully baked.

If he manages to get us back into the CL this season, not sure what more we could’ve asked for in year 1.

Sarr and Deli on changed the game in our favour. The following subs undid all that and then some.

Puzzling to give up all the control we just had managed to build.

I didn't like the subs when they happened. Taking off the players best able to keep playing football for players undercooked (Dragusin, Sarr) and lightweight (Gil and Skipp). Kulu just played poorly. It just invited more pressure which was going to come anyway.

I thought for 30 minutes of the second half we were fine without putting the game to bed. At that point the last thing I wanted was to see us defend a one goal lead with those subs.

Think people need to have a little perspective and remember that we're in a transitional season, Ange is learning the league himself and realistically we're overperforming in terms of league position. Anyone expecting a title challenge should probably calm down a bit, all we're really looking for is Europe, ideally Champions League, and we're on course for that.

I said the same thing in the match thread, we’re losing that extra man in midfield but still trying to play out with the same patterns but just lose it and the ball is coming straight back at us, it’s happened every time Dragusin has come on, it’s almost as if Ange feels he needs to bring him on and give him minutes.

What didn’t help as well was the Kulusevski and Gill substitutions, it allowed them to step further up and squeeze the pitch as they were no longer worried about Johnson and Werner getting in behind.

Taking off a cm for a central defender is sending a clear message of seeing out a game which seems very Un Ange and he's done it a couple of times now

Yea peak Poch especially in the final WHL season we were absolutely unstoppable. Dembele & Wanyama along with Toby, Jan, Dier and the physicality of Walker & Rose meant we were so so solid and then Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Son & Kane did the damage.

Our current team isn’t at that level yet, we are still building but we aren’t dominating games as often as we’d like but it’s only 6months in, peak Poch was 2.5-3yrs in.

We are well on our way, just need to add another ideally 4-5 this summer and we will next season imo be not far off peak Poch with the right 4-5 signings this summer.

4th CB
1-2x CM
1x RW of top quality
Sign Werner on a perm

Then we will have a squad of 22 where the quality never drops like it can at the moment with the likes of PEH, Skipp, Gil etc.

Wonder at what point he will realise this.

He’s 💯 giving Dragusin minutes in return for his loyalty for choosing us over Bayern and on paper the move makes sense but it’s not worked either time and as a few others have said better to not bring him on and then start him in some of the up coming matches for a full 90 mins in place of Romero etc.

Makes you wonder if he’s just experimenting and not too bothered about the result. Doesn't take an expert to see the game was handled poorly in the final 10

27 goals conceded in 14 games. We definitely need to improve on that more than anything from now until the end of the season.

For a team that dominates the ball as much as we do, we are far too sloppy at times and concede avoidable goals.

Defensively from corners and attacking free kicks we look poor too. And although s fantastic shot stopper, Vic needs to improve this area or Ange needs to come up with a solution.

Still, we didn't lose, last few seasons we would have.
