It's funny but I think he does well in a lot of the big games. It makes it more frustrating he doesn't do great in the others. Maybe because we have so much of the ball on those others and his ability in possession is limited. I thought he was really composed on the ball last night. He seemed to really take care in possession. I always think he's a player who is better when he doesn't need time on the ball. City didn't give him that and we saw the better side of his game. Maybe there's a bit of always needing to stay switched on as well. He gets complacent otherwise but against a top team he is more concentrated. Aside from the brief moments of madness it a good game from him.

Thought he was exceptionally good, ignoring the errors towards the end.
He had to concentrate a lot to defend against the City attacks and their movement. May be some mental fatigue set in as well as physical as he's not used to playing for such a long time this season.

Ignoring the 2 times he almost gave away a goal because he was dead on his feet, I thought PEH was fantastic last night. Actually think it was his best game for us.

Didn’t start making mistakes until he was shagged out. If we’d had another 6 on the bench he would have been subbed too.

Thought he was very very good last night.

It was the best I’ve seen him use the ball under pressure.
Probably helped that he didn’t have time to think or to turn and go back to the defenders. The pressure bought the best out of him.

Agree. He was excellent for 70+ minutes. By far our best player outside the defense yesterday.

With Brazilian international Andre (Fluminense) too expensive (his club asking for more than €30m), David Friio is increasing his contacts, and one of them lead to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as Foot Mercato revealed on Saturday. The Danish international (28, under contract until June 2025) is French through his mother, so he has the profile, but he is also very expensive in terms of both wages and transfers. The club's directors have been talking to him for several weeks now, as he is no longer a starter at Tottenham.
Can't see PEH wanting to go to Lyon, but apparently the journalist writing this piece is good for Lyon news.

Haven't they just signed Matic too? Not a very dynamic midfield duo there...

He was pretty good tbf. But the 2 opportunities he gave away at the end were why he’s not good enough. Saying that, must be tough playing city. He was definitely better than Bents. Who I thought was very poor. But seems to of got off lightly with the blame game lol.

On a surface level his performance was very good.

What I mean by that is the things he did, he did well. Made a few quick effective passes too.

But the issue isnt necessarily what Hojbjerg does, its what he cannot do.

In that position you need players who play with their heads on a swivel, are agile allowing them to glide past players and can change direction very quickly/smoothly.

They must also be able to drive the ball forward with purpose, engage opposing players to draw them in and be able to ride challenges.

These are all things Hobjerg cannot do.

He would suit the 8 role in a team that has a deep ball lying playmaker and plays in a compact unit with the focus on fast transitions as he can just focus on playing quickly and not so much having to get around players or pass/move.

He would actually suit Liverpool more as they play faster transitions.

Completely agree with this, he was the best of the midfielders yesterday and trust me I'm really not a huge fan of his. Fans judgement will be clouded by two moments of madness from him towards the end of the day but if you look at the game holistically then he was very solid.
Exactly this. Agenda driven blinkers all over the place. He’s obviously not our first choice but he needs credit when it’s due. Bentancur was at times far sloppier than Pierre during the time he was on with a number of poor passes leading to spells of possession for City.

Hojbjerg was absolutely shattered by the 80th minute when mistakes crept in. But until that point he did everything we would ask of a player in his position.

There are people saying he can’t play with his head on a pivot and transition the ball quickly…he did that on multiple occasions switching the play and trying the balls that some of our more lauded players did not.

He’s not the answer, but the agenda against him is a joke and I would be happy with him staying as part of the squad. No point replacing for the sake of it if we can’t get better.

Hojbjerg was definitely up there with our best performing players last night. It’s just completely agenda driven to say otherwise. Yes he doesn’t fit our style, and needs a move, but ffs it doesn’t hurt to give the guy some praise.

If I cool give a million agree votes to this I would. We suffered in creativity because him (and kulu) didn't make quicker passes, but he did his actual job fantastically.

Unusual to see us looking good so blunt in attack though.

Atletico have had a bid rejected for Matt O'Riley at Celtic... another "Danish" central midfielder....

So Vermeeren.... maybe O'Riley... and not Højbjerg for Atletico... :)

Good old Danish name there. Matt O’Riley.

I have a lot of time for Hoj and whilst his individual performances are usually good to very good, he does cause our system problems and causes others to not have good games (in spite of doing what he can do, well).

Does that make sense?

Anyway, I think come Feb 2 he’ll still be on our books as a prediction.

Madness that it seems very few clubs are willing to take a punt on him. Good player and exactly the type of person you want in your changing room. Ultimate pro.

Think it's more teams can't afford him. He's on big club wages but only the big clubs in England can afford him. Neither are looking for this type of player right now. He won't move to a team lower down than us. We've had this issue with a number of players though. It says a lot when Brentford can spend 30m on a young prospect but.clubs like A.Madrid and Juve can't spend on Hojbjerg. Maybe if he was a young prospect still on a lower wage they would.

Very very unlikely as they don’t have the money but putting it here anyway
