Intent has nothing to do with it. Either it’s endangering an opponent or it’s not. It’s a stonewall red
This.

Aubameyang was sent off for a similar challenge. The precedent has been set, it was a straight red.

Notwithstanding that, the little weasel should have got a second yellow for diving when Lloris didn’t touch him.

But you can’t send Raheem Sterling off.

Yeh, most people in the bar I was in thought it was a red, and they were arsenal fans. Ten years ago, when they were trying to clamp down on these kind of tackles it would have been a clear red.

Now it's a bit more complicated and was what I'd call an orange card. Was it careless or reckless? Probs a bit if both. But Im not sure VAR could overturn it. Mind I was livied with the pen. As for me it was impossible/hard to tell who got the ball first. I'm not sure it was a clear and obvious error.

Some really interesting fixtures coming up.

After the FA Cup replay on Wednesday, we’ve got 11 days off until we go to Villa.

In the same gameweek, Leicester have to play Wolves and Chelsea have to play United.

A few days later, we’re playing Chelsea away, while City play Leicester.

Top 4 is very much there for the taking.

It has been before though and we haven’t delivered. But we are looking better game by game. I’d be a lot more confident if we’d of bought a striker but nevertheless our hopes are still very much alive.

For what it's worth (probably not very much) my views on the main penalty / card incidents:

When Sterling fouled Alli it was a yellow not a red. It looked terrible in slow motion replay, but it was an honest challenge for the ball, Sterling got a bit of the ball, his foot wasn't high and he was in control of his body. Sterling's studs went into Alli because Alli's leg slid under his foot after Alli played the ball, not because Sterling went over the top.

I'm not a fan of Aurier and he does some stupid shit, but he didn't foul Aguero for the penalty. There may have been a little contact but Aguero wasn't impeded. He pushed the ball away and then threw himself to the floor when he could have taken another step and played the ball.. He dived and should have received a yellow card. Just because there is contact doesn't make it a foul.

The Sterling incident after Lloris saved the penalty was similar. Sterling got to the ball first, pushed it away from Lloris and flopped to the floor. Even if there was contact, which is doubtful, he wasn't impeded. Another dive, which should have resulted in a second yellow for Sterling.

One other point. For all the stick that he has been getting in previous games, I thought Harry Winks was probably our best player today.

It’s clear that Winks will flourish playing in a team with more creatives next to him. It lightens the burden on him significantly.

Really hope fans don’t give up on him, after his difficult spell.

The most balanced we have looked for a while, nice drilled team and Serge was so good but he loves a 'John Stones' moment and it just ruins his game. Ledley have a word please.

GLC is finally showing those who were worried what he is all about. He will be like Eriksen on steroids.

Im looking for problems? I have backed Mourinho since he has been with us. NDombele was sensational when he came on. He mentioned others but not NDombele
Maybe he just doesn't want to blow smoke up his arse, Ron.

Exactly- that’s what wound me up as well. For the Sterling challenge it was not considered a clear and obvious error to make it a red (which I thought was fair enough but then setting a pretty high bar for “clear and obvious”) - but then it was for the penalty which after multiple replays it was considered clear and obvious ?! ? I really don’t get it. Very confusing

You're nuts if you don't at least want him as part of the squad.
