Makes sense now we've gone for the younger centre back. Also goes straight into the team with his experience in this league. I really would hope we get it done this week and he starts Sunday. Not against VdV starting either but got to feel more confident if we had Laporte starting.

Would people prefer him or the young guy Silva we have been linked with?
Silva would cost twice as much - if Kane stays I could believe we scrounge up the €30m for Laporte or Sutalo but can’t see us doing much more than that.

I don't see why Laporte couldn't play RCB
It seems the idea of a CBs dominant foot limiting them to one side or the other is more common/prevalent these days, though perhaps more so with left footers? Right footed CBs seem to play on the left without issue pretty regularly, but sometimes the suggestion a left footer could play on the right is thought to be somehow inadvisable.
In any case, I’m with you. I think Laporte could play either side of a CB pairing. He may not be the fastest in the league, but he’s an elite defender who’s reading of the game, anticipation and timing can see him through against the majority of opponents. Pairing him with teammates who are very mobile would obviously be beneficial. I think he could easily go the way of someone like Thiago Silva and play to the highest standards for at least a few seasons after his 30th birthday.

It would make alot of sense.

Laporte can slot straight into the team and VDV can then settle in.
