I agree with all of that but one of his best strengths, for those who watched him at palace, was getting on the end of things and scoring goals with his runs into the box. Isn’t that exactly what Ange wants from one of his eights? I can see the merits in him with being hg too.

Yeah I don't think he'd be a disaster signing or anything, nor do I think he wouldn't be able to give us something, and it's also the type of signing that for £20m say, would look like arguably astute business, but for what he would probably cost you start to think that surely there are better options.

Like said I do see the appeal in what he could potentially provide, but I also struggle to argue with the view that he's fairly average and that a more mid-table side is his level.

I was impressed when I saw him play at Palace. Reminded me a bit of a young Dele in the way he wasn’t afraid of a bit of niggle and would sometimes leave his foot in on his opposite number. I think our midfield needs that.

Depending on the interest elsewhere, it's possible they price us out but sell him for a lower fee to someone like Wolves.

He excels at high energy pressing and breaking into the box and scoring goals from the no.8 position. I’m personally not hugely keen but he definitely has qualities that fit with Ange’ system.

He’s absolutely terrorised us playing for both WBA and Palace in the past and is an England international. It’s not some mid table no body that we’re targeting.

Yeah..but Gallagher? Ewwwwwwww.
I think I’ve only seen him a handful of times, mainly at Palace, and while I’ve not been bowled over by him there’s definitely a player in there. He’s 23 and works hard. If the price is right then we could do worse. Would agree with others re not going over 30ish million for him, though. Anyone know how many years he has left on his contract?

I do wonder if Devine really impresses during preseason that he might get some of those minutes. He’s going to need to sooner rather than later.

It sounds like Gallagher is just one of the options, besides we have to move on Hojbjerg first so it might be all in vain anyway if we don’t.

Very decent at Palace then average at Chelsea.

Seems like a lot of people are basing their opinions on how bad he was in an aimless Chelsea team where everyone looked terrible. He does have a lot to offer if you use him in the right way.

I think if we want an all-action, goalscoring, homegrown midfielder to run around all day then he's a decent shout. Not 50m but in the current market probably 30-40m because he's PL proven and English.

Main problem is his passing but he's decent at everything else and a terrier off the ball.

No thanks.
Disagree.

Sure he’s not worth £50mil but I think he’s another who’d fit so so nicely with how Ange likes to play, high energy very hard worker, good fitness, good as quick pass and move, intelligent player, creative and goal threat, good target and homegrown ticks a lot of boxes for one of those n.o8’s in Ange’s 4-3-3.

Spot on, he showed at Palace just how good he can be, his time at Chelsea has been pointless, he’s had injuries, he’s barely been given a run in the team and they’ve been a complete mess.

There was talk that if we wanted to sign two non HG centre backs that we might have to target a HG option as Hojbjerg’s replacement. If having to sign Gallagher meant we could get VDV and Tapsoba then surely more people would be for it than against. Sometimes it is about the bigger picture. We need to sell some players first though I suspect before that kind of thing can be considered.

Thought he was great at palace, but wouldn't pay anymore that £25m.

And besides, they won't deal with us and vice versa, which suits me fine.
I know, I’m just fooling around, and if Postecoglou wants him then we should probably trust him and try. But not at the prices suggested as you both say. I personally don’t rate him, he’s hard working but limited. We already have a couple of players in that mould. Don’t see the wisdom in swapping Højbjerg for him for example. And if it’s his running and pressing we want, why not just use Skipp?

As others have suggested there are better players out there for lower fees too.

To be honest I'm not going to expect anything from Devine until I see him up against a higher calibre of team but as you say judgement on him will need to start with how he performs in preseason.

Agreed though. I'm entertaining the thought because I'm bored but I'd still be a bit surprised if this was a deal to materialise, even if Ange's liking to him is genuine.

For what it's worth I've always been impressed with his effort and attitude and he's not unskilled but I've resisted it because he's a Chelsea player. Fair to say he's not a worldy but that don't mean he ain't good enough for us, he is and he'd be a benefit to our squad which is what I reckon our new manager sees in him. I'm on board with this but even I wouldn't pay £50m.
