Sounds like we're still in for him which is encouraging but Leverkusen aren't budging on their fee.

This chimes with the German journos saying Leverkusen really aren't seen to sell and I reckon we'll have to make a sizeable offer to convince them. Defo higher than the 40m initially quoted. If he was available for 40m I reckon he'd be here already.

Depends how high we're willing to go, but given he's a key player they don't want to sell I wouldn't be surprised if Leverkusen are asking for 50-60 and won't budge from that.

Not sure I can see us going that high unless we bring in a lot of money through sales.

I really do feel Dier, Davies and Dav all need to go. I know there are calls to keep them around but I don't feel any of them are up to Ange's standard

But as I've said most the team looked poor, particularly our defence, and I'd rather he stay, being a decent player, good squad player that doesn't whinge, and can fill a spot on the bench. With Udogie coming in, alongside possibly Lenglet too, I think the backup for the left side is sorted with just a first choice to come in.
Not an issue if he stays. My concern is he's only getting older and now might be a good time to sell. If we go to a back 4 he will only play left back and I'm not sure about him there now. I think he struggles to get close to a lot of wide attackers.

I understand that, but with a better left sided centre back, it becomes less of an issue than if Eric 'Turns like the Titanic' Dier is next to him. He's also a good role model for younger players and he's HG.

Everyone was woeful last season, and with Dier next to him anyone would probably look shite! I think Davies has quietly been one of our most consistent performers in our side over the last however many years.
But the issue was in the high line players got in behind him so easily. This was under mason. It’s pointless having dier and Davies in a high line

50 million which I read is the asking price isn't unreasonable when you consider the scum are paying 40 for a backup/rotation player.

If we consider him to be a first choice and crucial part of our team and we expect to be challenging at the very top then 50 is the going rate I'd say

But it won't be Dier and Davies, it'll be Romero and two young and mobile full backs.

I can see us bringing in both Tapsoba and Vdv but we are going to have to get rid of a couple first and just hope it doesn't leave us waiting around and someone else nips in. Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon.....just too many in the position.

Tbh we could still go back in for Laporte. WLB said he is still on the list but we have to wait until City sign Gviordial before we can do anything on that deal.

Being way too optimistic but what the heck, maybe the reason we aren't pulling the trigger on Tapsoba is because we are waiting for Laporte. Maybe we will look at Laporte and VDV. OK, and pigs might also fly, and you might find the elusive rocking horse shit, but.....

We are not poor, we are the 9th richest club and have to spend this window to resolve our previous mismanaged windows and poor squad.

The thing is you offset the cost with defensive outgoings at these kind of achievable prices:

Sanchez - £10m
Dier - £5m
Tanganga - £5m
Davies - £5m
Sessegnon - £10m
Reguilon - £5m
Rodon - £5m

Thats £45m there saved.

Even more if we can encourage bids from Saudi Arabia and get a couple of the players to go there.

Plus about £250k - £300k a week in wages freed up for the new 2 cb signings.

VDV and Tapsoba should be the target and likely to be £30m and £45m respectfully so net £35m cost.

Thats far too cheap for those players
