But what in Ange suggests that he is different other than he isn't a big name

People expect Ange to be the new Poch but I haven't seen anything as of yet that he could do that with us

Poch took a struggling team in Southampton and improved them in a year to the point most left for big money moves.

Ange on the other hand, brought an entirely new team(24 players) with only McGregor still being in the first 11 by the end of his reign.
Poch took Southampton from 14th to 8th. He did well there, changed the way they played, instiled a better culture and improved the team but it's hardly that much more impressive than what Ange has done? The debat around Poch when he joined was pretty much the same thing as we have now with Ange.

I think the fact of the matter is Poch was relatively untested when he took the Spurs job...you could see he had something about him, a good character, ability to motivate players and played attacking football. The Ange situation is not much different to be honest.

Not saying it means he will be the next Poch but just pointing out the managers who have done well for us have not necessarily had stellar CVs and the ones with stellar CVs have not done well for us.

Tottenham Hotspur set for Celtic approach over Ange Postecoglou to finally end manager hunt

The club are expected to ramp up their pursuit of the Australian after he delivers the Treble with victory in the Scottish Cup final

ByJohn Percy4 June 2023 • 5:06pm
Tottenham are poised to make an official approach to Celtic this week over the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach.

Spurs want to hold talks with Postecoglou and are keen to open negotiations on Monday, after the Australian secured the treble with Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Postecoglou has emerged as a leading contender to take over at Spurs, nearly 10 weeks after the departure of Antonio Conte, after an outstanding two seasons in Glasgow. Former Spain manager Luis Enrique and Fulham’s Marco Silva are also on Spurs’ shortlist.
Tottenham are seeking a new manager who will introduce an identifiable style of play and have been respectful in their pursuit of the 57-year-old, with Celtic’s season finally ending on Saturday. Celtic will demand compensation but are aware of Tottenham’s interest and will not stand in Postecoglou’s way if he expresses a desire to take over at the Premier League club.
Leicester City paid around £9 million to land Brendan Rodgers and his staff from Celtic in February 2019, but the fee for Postecoglou is thought to be significantly lower.
Postecoglou arrived at Celtic with no backroom staff in June 2021 and, crucially, could be open to working with Ryan Mason at Tottenham, who is highly regarded by club chairman Daniel Levy.
Scott Munn, the recently appointed chief operating officer, is a fellow Australian and a big admirer of Postecoglou’s methods and philosophy.
After Celtic’s win over Inverness on Saturday, Postecoglou said: “People around me have all worked hard to enjoy this moment, so that’s what I’m going to do.”

“I will enjoy it for as long as I can before people drag me away to talk about other things.”

“There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by being side tracked.”

Tottenham have experienced a number of setbacks in the process to find a successor for Conte, who left in March this year.

They held talks with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot but are now hoping to ramp up talks over an appointment this week.
Significantly lower in that he's on a rolling contract which will have ended and therefore no compensation is required?

Edit also worth noting apparently John Percy was first to call ange to celtic by a good couple of weeks

Postecoglou is quite a big name, tbf.

Looks like it’s Ange, then. Much like everyone else, he wasn’t my first, second or third choice but if he has any hope of succeeding, everyone needs to get behind him now. At least he plays attractive football and seems like a decent bloke. We’ve not been able to say that about a permanent manager since Poch.

If Kane goes, I’d rather we got Enrique in. The calibre of player he will be able to attract will be miles above Postecoglou. And we will need that or I dread to think what will happen next season without a good transfer window. The club needs to look at the whole picture really. Recruitment is as key as the managerial appointment. Especially if we lose our best player by far.
Bit suprised this is still a worry for people.

Dembele
Eriksen
Walker
Vertonghen
Toby
Wanyama
Trippier
Son
Alli

All of these players came to us despite us fighting it out between 5th and 6th place.

All were pivotal to how we played and who we were. A team of upcomers looking to improve.

On the flip side

Ndombele
Lo celso
Perisic
Richarlison

All came with a reputation and wanted by bigger clubs.

Arsenal were down in 8th but still signing Gabriel, Saliba, etc

Worked wonders fot them.

Lastly the likes of Villa and Newcastle are going to hang around longer before players choose them over us.

I live in Brazil and everyone knows Spurs now. Newcastle are just starting to get a name but no-one talks about Villa.

That translates to players.

Besides I want us to get back to signing players like Alex Scott. Players looking to prove themselves and fit a system.

Ornstein never usually posts shite in his "exclusives" so looks like we might not hit the 72 days again (which would be wednesday)

Id also add that the season we lost Bale it didn't put our targets off joining us.

Soldado, Paulinho and Lamela were quite big names at the time. Or at least supposed to be the next big thing

It's quite impressive that we win nothing and also ruin the enjoyment for fans of teams that do.

We've really pissed on both Feyenoord and Celtic fan's chips.

We're a disease.
Speak about your self being a disease.
I don't care about Feyenoord or Celtic fans and would be happy go shit on their chips, though not whilst they watch!

Levy won't sell Kane and secure any manager worth his salt.

What manager would sign a contract with the knowledge that he is losing a player who has scored 70 PL goals in the last three seasons?

Not gonna happen.

I'm glad you appreciate a little healthy skepticism because I checked your comment that he's won things at every club he's been at.

He hasn't.

There have been three clubs where, at least according to Wikipedia, he didn't win anything.

Still, those Spurs fans whose thinking has 'no basis in reality', what are they like, eh?
