I saw a tweet from Bild I think this morning (sorry was half asleep) linking Alonso with Madrid.

Looks like someone's agent has been busy to me.

Even though Nagelsmann is a big name he is a big name in a different way to Mourinho and Conte for various reasons.

He makes the most sense as he is a big name which Levy like but he also has the right philosophy.

I'm completely guessing but I would assume that we're down to 2 names, we're confident we can land Slot because he wants to come, we favour Nagelsmann so we're exploring that. I can't imagine we're doing anything beyond that even though Gallardo is sitting right there, waiting to win the domestic treble next season.

In all seriousness, I've been a Nagelsmann fan for a long time and I think usually I'd be putting all my hope in that basket. Something is telling me though that Slot is the better fit for Spurs despite knowing next to nothing about him. I just get the feeling that Nagelsmann is going to be a micromanager and these players are begging to be let loose and that Slot appears (from a very shallow observation) to be able to provide that.

Could this just be the media stretching their search, rather than us dithering?

We have all manor of people trying to work out if that airport photo was real, of it is where they were going. Could Alonso just be an educated guess?
Could be us letting our preferred candidate know we have serious alternatives ?

It truly is a shit show if they’re identifying new names and looking at new people now.

Just pray what Trix has heard is on the money as we should be down to one or two candidates at this stage.
Only if you believe the press. Not one of our ITKs have suggested we are looking at new names.

Nagelsmann’s request for a DoF he can work with makes perfect sense, and is completely necessary if we’re to start a long term project..

The million dollar question is will Levy listen to what some little jumped up 35 years old is trying to tell him!? If not, we may as well appoint Mickey Mouse!

Making an assumption, maybe based on JN’s need for DoF, the club have been talking to Stiedten, former Leverkusen DoF, and he has talked up the job Alonso is doing, just as an alternative option.

Am I the only one that feels like they don’t give a shit who the next manager is? We need better players in several positions that I don’t believe we will get and it will likely all end in tears because of that. If we aren’t in the market for at least 2 top CB’s in the summer then we won’t even make Europa next season, especially if we lose Kane and we all know he’s going to try to go. You could see in his latest interview he’s emotionally drained by this club. Our next manager needs to be a miracle worker in the sense that they are able to get Daniel Levy to back them straight away and not meddle.. not going to happen is it

Basically yeah, i really don't want fairly untested ex players who reek of other clubs managing Spurs, when there are other, less flashy managers doing similarly great work who we could employ (Slott as an easy example). I'd go as far as to say i'd rather Mason was kept on if the idea was we really had to have a young ex player as a manager.
If you can't see the merit of appointing someone like a Kompany over Mason, I worry for you.

I think the next manager does matter in so far as getting the most out of what we have. In my opinion that means a coach that likes to use aggressive fullbacks or wingbacks as opposed to inverted fullbacks is a big positive.

Part of why I like Nagelsmann more than Slot is that he has shown at Leipzig and Munich what he can do with an asymmetrical back line. A player like Porro who we have spent a lot of money on will be suited to this role. Alonso and Amorim are logical solutions, whilst Gallardo and Poch both like to get their fullbacks involved high up the pitch.

If those clubs end up being interested in one of those when they're our manager then that means they've done a fairly decent job with us.

Anyway I don't think it'll be any of those. Slot or Naglesmann by the looks of it.

Or we could go opposite route?

Appoint Lampard because Chelsea won't want him back? Some people's logic is questionable at best.

Tied in with the photo at the airport and the Düsseldorf destination… Leverkusen is only half an hour from there… could there be more to it than some random newspaper one line?

💯. We need a fresh new start with someone with no very strong affiliation to other rival PL clubs.

Far rather Slot or Almorim etc over a Kompany or Alonso as the narrative in the media will always be are you going to city are you going to Liverpool and we really need the focus to just be on us and what we are building for once, like it was under poch until right towards the end when the man.u and Madrid links cropped up, but even then he had no real previous affiliation to either of those clubs.

I mean De Telegraaf are usually very reliable. Doesn't mean its true of course, but then you could say the same about Nagelsmann being number one or Slot being number two or anything we have been told by the press up unto this point.
but we've had itk on JN & Slot

Aside from the keeper and CBs the squad's not dreadful when you factor in who's currently out on loan and who's injured.

I think we need to stop worrying about what might happen with a manager in the future and focus on the present, if a manager wants to come and can do a job now then fantastic, if they're doing it with an eye for their next move then that means they have a personal interest in succeeding so our desires are mutually beneficial.

I usually agree with you mate but sorry not here.

Kompany is a leader, he would be great anywhere and yeah he has ties to City but if we got a Slot or Amorim and they smash it they would also go City because their chances of success are far greater there.

I just want the best man for the job irrespective of club history or formational preference. (NAGLESMANN!!)
