He’s not gonna be a starter for us, so I don’t see why he’d want to come. Surely nailed on to go to the butcher boys in Newcastle?
Yeah thats a good shout. Can see that happening.Bit of ITK for what it's worth. But....Lingard to Newcastle is the most likely destination
You got a phone!??Could be better/bigger fish than us trying to sign him mate.
That sort of decision is left to the likes of yourself, the scouting team & Conte himself.
I'm just a twat with a phone.
Agreed, but I really don't think he will be happy to be a squad player here when he can get first team football with West Ham or Newcastle etcThere is no down side to this. He is 'Home grown'!!! , Can play left or right side and probably challenge for a first team spot, as well as provide good backup for injury's.
If he doesn't get much game time, we can sell after a year and prob make 10-20mill.
I can see no reason not to try and get him.
Who's place in the starting XI would he take, in order to become "undroppable"?He's only 'not a starter' based on SC opinion though, tbh. There's few players that were better than him in the league last time he got half a chance, so he's the kind of player that could come in and be undroppable. After all, you should start if you good enough.
Unless your name rhymes with Heathen Verge Line
Who's place in the starting XI would he take, in order to become "undroppable"?
We don't have a CAM / no.10 in our system. Our LWF has scored more goals from open play than any other PL player this season (plus contributes assists). Our RWF is also one of the most productive players in the league (almost a goal/assist per game), fits Conte's system perfectly and has a great natural understanding with Kane & Son.
Lingard managed a goal/assist roughly every 2.5 games during his most prolific season for Man Utd. During his loan spell at West Ham, he had a 10-game purple patch (13 goals & assists in 10 games), then fizzled out.
Based on past form, Bale would be far more prolific as a rotation player than Lingard.
I live in Sussex and have to say that I've seen loads of kids wearing Spurs shirts in my local town and park.I accept he was a good player - who is coming to the end of his great career. He deserves to be snapped up by a mid table club - someone like Newcastle - who he would help enormously for 3 or 5 years. He is seeking a move as Man U are looking to invest and strengthen their team / re set / restructure themselves to be a top 4 contender once more.................
If we even consider signing him - it truly demonstrates that the (weak) Board's ambition is to remain a top 6-10 club. My logic is that if we buy world-class players and buy for the future - we will become a top 4 / Champions league club. The Board's strategy seems to have always been / and remains: to buy players on the cheap / last minute / from clubs being relegated / from clubs wanting to offload surplus players who are not quite cutting it anymore / or take a chance on a player who probably cannot take the demands of an intense premier league. Sometimes we are lucky........ mostly as our transfer policy and success rate shows) ....... we are not.
Our current position - more reflects United / Arsenal / Chelsea / Leicester and others poor performance - than our great success.
Where are we - 20 points from the top / 20 points from mid table and 40 points from relegation. About were we will remain - under the (passive and ineffective) Boards current strategy and policy.
The Board's strategy and transfer policy is embarrassing us - and them - and does not really attract great numbers of new fans. How many kids have Spurs shirts in the park ...........not as many as the top 4 clubs!...........How many Spurs supporters do you bump into in Pubs / at work / socially - compared to the top 4.............. This is a practical demonstration of Levy's (and the passive Board's) strategy and (past / current) transfer policy
Which clubs are featured on Super Sunday live TV matches - the contenders? And what happens to Tottenham - shown on the late nigh replays - not Live! Could anyone really see Lingard
linked to City / Liverpool / Chelsea / Arsenal or any other club aiming for the top 4 next year?................ Ido not think so!
Under the Board's (non-ambitious) strategy and transfer policy .........I see us in 5th / 6th or 7th place yet again - next season..........and yet more embarrassing comments from rival supporters.
To Levy and the Board - buy like champions (from Champions. and buy players who are - still -champions) and we are likely to be champions!!!!
Spurs for life!
I don't think Eriksen is a perfect fit as a regular starter for Conte's system either, but I think he's far more accomplished as a CM than Lingard. The idea of Lingard playing in a CM 2 scares me (unless it's for our opposition). In the average position map you posted, Lingard had Rice & Soucek playing in CM behind him, rather than playing as an advanced CM within a CM 2 - completely different role.I'm not going to touch the Bale vs Lingard thing, because Bale didn't play for West Ham that season. It argues for itself.
This was his average position map at West Ham
With that in mind, it's perfectly feasible for him to fit as a more advanced CM in the 5-2-3 that Conte uses, or indeed perhaps in a variety of positions.
It's basically the exact same argument with any non-defensive midfielder we'd be looking at (e.g. Eriksen)
That's even more of a positive sign of support than it used to be, considering the modern shirt prices.I live in Sussex and have to say that I've seen loads of kids wearing Spurs shirts in my local town and park.
More than I've seen for many years if I'm honest. There's also a good little group of Spurs fans in my local pub so maybe things aren't quite as bad as you appear to think.
That's not chances created, which is far more usefulHistory suggests that Eriksen is far more likely than Lingard to contribute enough goals & assists from a wide-forward position. Eriksen has been 50% more productive (goals & assists vs. games played) and has a career total of 275 goals & assists compared to Lingard's 129 (over twice as many, yet only 10 months older). I think the dynamics of our play would need to be adapted significantly to get the most out of Lingard, whereas Eriksen could rotate in for Kulusevski without.
If you look into their "chances created" stats, you might find the gap between them is even biggerThat's not chances created, which is far more useful
Basically, statistics show that any midfielder that's played with Kane and Son will be flattered as far as goals and assists go. It's such a redundant metric when you consider that it isn't as much of a personal performance indicator as you might think
