As with every transfer window, it doesn't really matter how many we sign, some people just want a moan. If we'd signed Vlahovic, Messi, and Ronaldo there would still be people moaning that we hadn't got shot of Winks and Tanguy or that we didn't also sign another CB or that our wage bill is massive because we have too many players and can't shift the ones we want to shift.

I find it interesting that people are bringing up the narrative that we always seem 1 or 2 players short. That is a fan perception at every club, and shows that the reality is not as clear cut.
100%. Baffles me how people talk as if transfers are guarantees. We could have signed every player we've been linked to (hypothetically, obviously) and they could all flop. Similarly, I don't understand why people ignore the fact that a new manager, style and system basically gives players a fresh start. How many times over the years have we seen good players fail after a move or 'bad' players do well under a certain manager and or system. Ultimately all of this is just a sideshow - I only really care about what happens on the pitch.

Have they?
This was his much reported approach to transfers... the 'negotiate with 10 players for a position and then decide [based on a bunch of factors one of which would obviously be availability or our willingness to pay a fee]'

Maybe it's incorrect info, or one person said it and a bunch of people repeated it, but nonetheless, loads of people reported this and i didn't hear any refute it?

So, where do we rank in EPL in terms of summer business - top 4, top half? Thoughts - remember we need consider ins and outs?

Leicester must be up near the top, United clearly - thoughts?

They're guaranteed to flop if you don't even sign them in the first place though. It's more about the weaknesses in the squad that need addressing rather than the specific players brought in to fix them. Obviously we as fans have no idea but I expect the club to have something to show for all the millions they invest into scouting.

It's important to keep in mind here that Adama was the alternative. We were in for Lautaro and Vlahovic earlier in the window but were priced out of the deals. We then turned to Adama and, according to ITK, actually struck a deal only for Levy to refuse to sign off on it. It's not Paratici's fault that we haven't signed an attacker.

What odds the club announce the biggest ever stadium naming rights deal in the world first thing tomorrow morning just to troll us some more?

And you have to be an absolute **** to think it is ok to use this word, under any circumstances.

Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.
He's been a member since 2013 and THIS is the window that broke him?!
What a ****! ??

It's Levys fault for trusting his team and sanctioning the stupid purchase of Ndombele, Doherty, Stevie, Bale, Lo Celso at such high fees and wages that we can't get rid of them.

It's Levys fault for NOT trusting his team to buy Traore, Martinez, etc etc.

Call me cynical but i suspect that being over charged was just spin.. Levy would have only allowed a purchase if we sold Kane .. and probably only purchased one of them as well..

Yes... I mean you can argue that those may be hard decisions to make and easy to criticise in hindsight... but Levy is responsible for making them.

A lot of pressure on DL right now from those that know about football. Not sure he gives a fuck though, table speaks for itself, innit.

A different perspective from DL says we're top because of a shot where son slipped when hitting it, a penalty and an intended cross going in.

Not to say that's strictly true, however the truth isn't that we're top from menacing attacking displays and clearly the best team in the league. There is major room for improvement and it's disappointing we can't find a way to get that improvement over the line regardless of how.

It's not our jobs as fans to find a way of getting it done, it's the people in charge of the clubs transfer business to find a way to get it done.

Bet there isn’t one. Hence the apparent U turn ??‍♂️ Still don’t get why Levy would supposedly step in now.. doesn’t make any sense to me.

Side note the transfer ticker and this ITK thread with the real transfer article links is loads better I think! Hope it continues in January.

We aren’t going to compete with the top
4 In one window. Probably not even 4. We have to either sell. Or be creative and try and pick up players that are young or we get lucky with. We then have to hope these players either bed in. Or become world class players. Every now and again we splurge some cash on a player we think will elevate us. Which seems to rarely work. So we have to hope the top 4 have an off season. so we can make CL. Generate more cash as then spend “some” of that.

A lot of the systems we have in place have in place to generate cash. been hampered by Covid and lack of fans and CL football.

I am well aware of how Levy operates. And the frugal way he does it. As should everyone else by now. So why do we have this aghast at the end of every window? Even with a DOF. Who may have had a budget given to him. But also may well have had to sell before buying. Which hasn’t happened for the above and other reasons.

I’ve become numb to these transfer windows. It’s just not worth getting upset/angry about any more. We get what we get at the end
Of the window and we go from there.
If we arent aiming to compete with the top 4 what was the point keeping kane?

That's not the point I was making. Having multiple players on a list in case of a U turn from the selling club, is not the same as moving on to other targets once Levy U turns on spending.

then to this point - is this:

1. Us not having the money to spend?
2. Levy only getting a hard on by swindling people?
3. ENIC moving it’s goal posts constantly when they see us get wins thinking we don’t need to invest
4. The stadium debt?
5. Previous player investments saddling us with debt?

At some point you have to ask yourself the why behind it and it is insanely frustrating that Levy is looking for Louis Vuitton returns on Aldi investments.

I can't help but think that the Ndombele experience, no matter how distinct, has caused some damage. If we've really struggled to move on some players this summer, it is probably sensible not to kneejerk into buying players you aren't 100% sure about.

Levy should never be the person making the football decisions. The solution to the problem you identified with some of our managers' choices turning out to be bad business was supposed to be bringing in the DoF. Indeed, we had ITK that Nuno has been pushing for Adama for some time and that Paratici and Hitchen needed convincing.

It's perfectly appropriate for there to be an executive serving as a check on the manager when it comes to recruitment, but when the manager and recruitment team are all singing from the same song sheet Levy shouldn't fucking step in and supplant their football judgment with his own. What's the fucking point of the DoF, otherwise?
