Said yesterday it was pure arrogance to go out there and expect to beat them, they finished 5 in the Portuguese league.

Romero looks really poor
Sessegeon could be a worse signing that N’dombele
Winks we know

Scarlett & Carter vickers only players that say we’ve done okay
It is only Romero's first game but on this evidence how was he CB of the year.

Winks poor, and Romero is just not in the game. The defensive line was poor as well. Really poor half from us but it is to be expected. Most of the players are not fit and have never played together.

sorry, but I would expect a lot better than what we've seen so far.

The stream I'm watching has no commentary, & the game resembles a pre - season friendly between 2 non - league sides. Just need to hear the results of the raffle draw now to complete the matchday experience.

Very very poor. Too many changes to the team and too many first teal players rested. There’s nothing on the bench to pull this out of the shite either.

I hope Sess comes good I really do. Same with Lo Celso. Obviously bags of talent but that window gets bleaker and bleaker all the time.

I’ve defended Winks for a long time but man he doesn’t look good against League 1/2 sides and now doesn’t look good in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, that’s embarrassing. You can’t dominate a game with him in the team

Do have to retain some amount of perspective, imo. As Nuno alluded to in some of his pre-match stuff, at some point you have to play these kids and give them the experience of playing in games that matter. There are some very inexperienced players on the pitch, playing against professional men. It's going to be unbalanced, and that will affect the more experienced players too.

Didn't expect much from this game more than gametime for people like Scarlett and John, and pre-season for a couple of others.

Winks and Lo Celso in particular need to step up though, as they're both experienced (internationals) enough to be able to compensate for the inexperience of others.

Got to go change formation now, really and kick on.

Nuno took a massive gamble by taking such an incredibly weakened group out there. We should at least have Son, Dele, Lucas, Bergwijn etc. on the bench for exactly this situation. It’s as though he’s willing to completely write off this competition even though the coefficient points will be massively important once the new CL qualification rules come into play.
This is why I was not happy with the squad. This isn’t some useless competition, this is now really important if we wanna get back into the CL and it’s a way to do so even if we finish outside the top 4. Granted it’s still 3(?) years away from the revamp, but still.

I've spent large parts of the day on the phone to my GF comforting her as our beloved dalmatian Frankie has deteriorated suddenly and his only good back leg has gone and he is struggling to walk/lay/get up. I'd sub him for Winks in a breath!

least it affirms what players need to go, winks, ccv, john needs a loan, sees maybe another, doherty if anyone would take him

I’ve been on the winks out train for a while, but Doherty is the worst player I’ve ever seen us buy. Staggeringly bad

CL qualification :cautious:
I can’t remember the precise details but starting in a year or two the top two clubs by coefficient points who did not qualify by normal means (Top 4, EL champions) will qualify for the CL. It was basically a sneaky way of making it easier for clubs of exactly our stature — a bit shit but with major global television appeal — to get into the tournament.

An expectedly dodgy half. Plenty of time to adjust and turn it around. 1-1 draw would be a good result to take back home. A few touches of class from Gil. John and Sess struggling. Romero rusty. It's not great so far but no reason to panic.

After a promising first 10 minutes we looked pretty clueless after that. 11 strangers on the pitch - there's just zero chemistry.

You could tell Nuno had started to coach the system, but with that many players unaccustomed to playing together it was always going to be tricky. So many loose passes under no pressure and moments of miscommunication.
