Anyone else seem to be a bit nervous that there seems to be nothing advanced for our more pressing positions?

I know Paratici works on multiple at a time and its supposedly good when things are quiet, but each day we get closer to the end of the window and we still have a lot of holes. On the whole I'm actually pretty optimistic about where the squad could be come the end of the window I just want to start seeing things get closer.

Currently, no.

European clubs seem to be skint so they need the money.

They know that we've got the cash, so want to squeeze as much out of us as they can.

Right now we're just being patient because the clock is ticking and they need our cash more than we need their players.

As deadline day approaches various European clubs will buckle under the pressure and accept our offers (which are still generous all things considered).

So anyway, that's how I see it; just need to be patient.

I reckon we'll start to see movement around Friday of next week.

Serie A starts the weekend after next I suspect clubs have been hoping the urgency of the premier League starting sooner might be weighing on us but we've not caved and next week it'll be on them.

We never seem to worry about getting a squad together before the start of the PL

So we’re told Paratici likes to negotiate for a bunch of players for a single position at the same time, well in the last 24 hours we’ve had new links with at least four CMs - Palhinha, Tolisso, Ward-Prowse, and Zakaria. I’ve got a good feeling there’s something brewing there, ideally with an outgoing as I don’t think we’d bring in a CM otherwise. Wonder who Fabio’s first-choice is…

Let's be totally honest here. You are looking at a guy who has come onto a ship with more holes in it than a sieve. He doesn't want to simply run around the decks making minor repairs that will spring water again in a years time. He's trying to work out which of the leaks constitute the gravest threat to the survival of all on board and deal with them in a methodical and long term manner. I have no doubt that when Spurs once again hit the high seas of the Premier league on August 15th we will still be taking in water but it will be at a controllable and ever improving rate.
This Italian was deliberately not going to say "Rome wasn't built in a day" but it does seem the perfect description of where we are at. When the transfer window closes I hope everyone in here will not think "It's nowhere near enough" but more "Fair play, considering the hand he was dealt he's not done too bad". Then when he has time to really show what he can do we can start making real plans.

I detect the sounds of back tracking here..... :cautious:

Yeah, I basically came to say the same when I noticed all the CM links in the last 24h.

I don't really see the need for new midfielders unless two or more are leaving. Sissoko seems to be leaving and there are murmurs about Ndombele. Haven't heard anything about Winks leaving for weeks. Romano suggested yesterday that Winks wants to stay.

But it for sure looks like Paratici is casting out his hooks.

There's no excuse really why, as a club, we shouldn't be constantly monitoring a dozen or so players for every position, on an ongoing basis.

That includes having an understanding of their wage demands and whether they'd be open for a move or not.

The club should have the resources to do that.

PS Not that I'm saying the club doesn't do this.

We've very much worked on a "1 out" / "1 in" basis this summer

Toby / Romero
Lamela / Gil
Hart / Gollini
Foyth / (Tomiyasu)
(Sanchez) / (New CB)

Net spend, not counting Romero's fee which is deferred to next year after his initial loan, we are actually about £4M up (until we buy for Tomiyasu). The real key is shifting players like Aurier, Sissoko, Winks who will most likely be required to take a step down in terms of club size and salary, to free up squad spaces and help fund a significant purchase (like Martinez). Is Paratici prepared to subsidise them?

I think with Sissoko and WInks it will need to be a case of their professional pride. Stick Devine and John on the bench for the first 3 games and they will soon be up for a move when they're sitting at home on matchday.

Aurier is a bit different as he only has a year left on his contract and he strikes me as the sort of player who wouldn't be fussed if he can negotiate his own move next summer

For me, the essentials were CB, CM, and RW, and keeping Kane. So to get Romero, the return of Skipp, and Gil in ticked all those boxes with Kane currently still here.

The next priorities were RB, another CB, CM, but superseded with another striker if Kane leaves.

So I'm happy enough with what we have now (I'm a huge fan of Skipp and Gil) but with Tomi not looking far away and the CM options we've started looking at I don't think we'll be that far away.
Plus, if Kane does go we can afford all our targets in one summer anyway.

Glad you're happy with how things are going.Im sure we've a few more surprises before 31st.

It's interesting - much of that I agree with, but given where his head of obviously at, one of my priorities would be (which you allude to):
- Sell Kane for the best possible price
- Replace him with someone (young) of genuine quality

This for me remains the biggest area of risk.

Otherwise, if we achieve the above, assuming we can get Tomayisu in - who can cover RB and CB - then while we should need others, that would leave us in a reasonable, if not spectacular place.

We should then be after:
- a CB
- an attacker/wing forward
- possibly CM support

...as well as shifting some of the fringe

Think we're all in a similar place really. The Kane sale, if it goes ahead, should kick start it all - therein lies the risk

Would imagine that's quite a bit saved on weekly salary there (above)!!

If we're playing with 3 CBs and a couple of wing-backs, then I'm not fussed if we keep Aurier to rotate with Doherty and (possibly) Tomiyasu.

I don't think his defensive weaknesses would be exposed with 3 CBs and Skipp and Hoybjerg in the team.

It is definitely a case of risk management.
On paper, if we sell Kane and use the money to get players like Vlahovic, Martinez, and another decent quality CB in we start to look very strong but there's no guarantee they can replace Kane's goal/assists.
But then Tomi, Gil, Skipp, and Romero may not be enough to complement Kane's goals to make us competitive enough.

After the consequences of the Bale sale (I thought we'd nailed the replacements) I'm probably still risk averse enough to want to keep Kane.
But I think only Fabio/Nuno know where his head's at and whether they have enough confidence in their judgement of their targets to justify the sale.

The Don needs to hurry up and get some signings through the door asap

There is no rush now as any signings from now onwards probably won't be selected to start before the International break.

Also the way the market is the longer you wait the more money you will save.

We might get Tomiyasu over the line soon.

We needed a CB before we sold the best one at the club. We need a proper back up or someone to play along side Kane if he stays, if he goes we'll need 2.

Right now, we are going into the start of the season weaker than when last season ended. We have a hell of a lot to do.

I know it’s meant to be good when Fabio goes all quiet, but seriously, has anyone checked on him? Is he ok? He may have slipped in the bath or something! You won’t get through on his phone, City are still on the line waiting to hear the answer for their £120m offer For Kane. They just think he’s thinking it over, it’s been days now, their phone bill is gonna be HUGE!
