my word Sanchez was awful! Constantly out of position. Even headers under no pressure never found a spurs shirt. Got lucky with a few chances and generally was a (yet again) a rabbit in the headlights. He’s supposed to be the commanding presence and he is looking more exploited and nervous with every passing game. Time to move him on once Rodon steps up

One of those games where we just don’t get going. But have to say not sure why Vinicius came off at HT, 3 changes sure but for me that was a mistake by Jose.

Maybe he picked up an injury. It seemed to be a great opportunity to bring Kane on to play with him at half time and play 2 up top.

I mentioned him in the match thread, I thought their number 4 was a man mountain. Absolutely bossed their defence.

It’s frustrating because we have Europa league games between a run against city, chelsea and arsenal and we don’t want to be relying and Kane and Son then. We needed these points tonight to take control of the group and by us flexibility later.

Sanchez should never play without either Dier or Toby to lead.
To be fair sticking Dier or Toby with Davies at cb isn't gonna do much to improve matters.
I'm not a fan of full backs playing at centerback or vise versa. This is top flight football. I dont think the 'he can do a job there' really works.

I can understand it to an extent as we had three games in 7 days. Monday, Thursday, Sunday.

Also, against LASK, Vinicius, Alli, etc all put in good performances so Jose probably felt that they'd do well again. And Bale had supposedly looked good in training.

Problem is, Antwerp seemed to be much better organised and dangerous which meant those same players needed to be much better too. Unfortunately they haven't had the time together to raise levels and be sharper with their understanding.

Think Jose will have learnt from it though. He won't make as many changes and some will be bench players for a while until they show they can be trusted again.

Another issue we have is CM without Hojbjerg. Winks can't hold the fort, and in fact, he's quickly becoming a bit useless and easily our most upgradeable player.
Yeah, I agree with what you say with regards to Sid ?? (love that whoever came up with it!!) but by making 9 changes, you are basically starting a completely different team and cannot expect a fluid performance. We were awful tonight but on a positive, we should still get through the group relatively easily and hopefully Jose has learnt that some players including Dele, Sanchez and Winksy can no longer be relied upon. So maybe not all bad news tonight!!

Very weird performance all round in that it didn't look like anyone particularly cared in a constructive way from minute one until the final whistle, and yet everyone looked a bit naffed off the whole game. Strange one. Hopefully just something to get out the system. ??‍♂️

I never understand why managers start a game with a weakened team. Surely, it makes more sense to start strong, kill the game as early as possible and then rest your better players.
This makes even more sense now that you can sub half the team.
That many changes from the starting 11 is always gonna be disjointed regardless of how good or shit players are imo. Its asking a lot.
I'm with you, make a few changes, start strong, get the game done and then make the changes.
Best wait until we're 4.0 up and theres only 5 mins left though just to be safe lol.

Yeah, it's definitely down to too many changes, I've said that in other posts.

Haha, yeah Sid is a great nickname.

I agree. But how many reactionary losses do we need this season, and can we really afford to? Consistency is the biggest order but we never get a firm grip on that. Really don't want a repeat of 15/16 season when we lost all initiatives purely down to ourselves. ?
Absolutely moving forward the team must become much more solid especially in the league. But for this one match, all the anger and frustration, does it really matter? Many talked about how we could win 4 group stage matches and throw away the two last. Well, what if we did that but just flipped it upside down a bit, and cashed in early on one shambolic match in a group that we should win anyway. Birdseye view - tonight really isn't that big deal.

Just caught Jose's interview on SpursTV
Quote "it confirmed a few things for me" and "opened a few other question marks" and "will help me in the future of my decisions"
I think that sounds ominous for one or two members of the squad.

I agree. It really isn't, at all.

If we'd just lost to Brighton at home I'd feel disapponted too but if we're gunna lose games id rather it be the away one in EL to the next best team in the group.

It was only 3 days ago we had a real battle on our hands to beat a very organised and up for it Burnley, we overcame that well and stood up to the task.

The issue today isn't the progress of the team and there's nothing to worry about as a whole because most players can be absolved of the blame and have been excellent so far. The problem was huge changes to the team that unsettled fluidity as well as a few players showing that they aren't up to it, of those will likely be out the door soon enough (Alli, Winks, Sanchez)

I don't know if I can defend Sanchez any longer. That was his worst performance of the season for me, really really poor. I can't see Rodon or Tanganga being worse at the moment.

Unless he gets his act together he's very quickly slipping into the list of players we need to look to move on.
Funny how people see different things.
I honestly thought he was ok tonight.
He didnt do anywhere near as many sideways backwards passes. Probably becaus he thought fk that I'm not giving it to Davies as he blasts it off opponents 9 times out of 10 lol.
He went forward with the ball a few times. He doesn't normally.
And he won a few headers and 50 50s, again something he's normally shit at.
Plus that brilliant tackle from Winks brain fart.
I dont think he is good enough and we do need to move him on but theres no way that was a worse performance than previous matches imo.

Totally agree it was like a stroll in the park and when the whole team plays bad everyone plays bad, but some still want to single individuals out and forget the awful performances of the 4 players that got taken off at half time.

I’m looking forward to hearing what Jose has to say about the performance. Assuming his interview will be shown after the goons game??

1 or 2? 4 players got their arses hauled off at half time
