As mentioned often, I'm sure the other shareholders (a few at least on here) would know or be informed well before something actually happens

It’s a private company and has been for some years. Some people kept shares but they don’t count for anything.

Think people just need to calm down on investment and what we are going to spend over next two/three weeks. We have had take over investment rumours last 10 years or so which ultimately leads to nothing.

Lot of people seem to becoming gidy after this weeks excitement. Let’s just wait and see what happens over next few weeks.. just think to save another backlash if we don’t spend big over next few weeks or if our business ( I really hope not) finishes with this weeks deals and we just see our goings.

It's a Limited company with private shareholders. Companies Act 2006 is still relevant and enforceable for basic shareholder rights, regardless of whether the company is public or private

We haven't actually spent that much yet. Hart was free, PEH was 3m net, Doherty was 15m. Bale was/is a 15m deal apparently.

So we're only really talking 33m.

If we splash some serious wedge on a striker, ACM and a CB then there may be something afoot.

But if we end up with 50m to 60m net spend it won't be all that unusual, given the large amounts we're still getting from tv revenues.

Plus with bale we will make that up easily in commercial stuff.

How does that work then?
Do you not think that it will see a huge increase in shirt sales, interest across the world, when the ground opens again commercial activity with sponsors can only be helped.

He is a legitimate world superstar, same as mourinho. The latter has weird social media accounts who support him rather than a club.

Bale is invaluable to the club from a status and commercial point of view. Alex Morgan too is a brilliant buy in that respect.

Yeah but I genuinely would like to know how it works, not being a dick.

For all I know the profit we gain from shirt sales isn't that much, unless I'm missing something? I always wondered how the club makes money off the back of players...unless the club have control of their image rights. For example when Utd game Rooney his fat contract it meant that he hand to hand over his image rights to the club so they can use his face and his image on club merchandise and advertise in the Far East.

Reguilon for 25million? I think that's what's been said.

I'm not buying into it tbh. It does feel like something is going on, however we have been here before with stories of "the club will open the wallet of the right player is there" and "activating funds" etc

Having said that the messages at the beginning of the window were very much 'only loans and frees' and 'sell before buy' yet we are signing Reguilon before we've sold and he isn't cheap. We're also getting respected journos state that next we will get a CF and CB.

It's hard to call.

We can only go by history and the current financial situation. While I think it’s the perfect time to twist rather than stick, ENIC have never had an interest in that and it’s their money. I knew we’d be active this window and spend a bit but I still think we will move 4 or 5 on to balance the books.

Definitely feels like there's been a change of mentality by the board in the last year or so, I didn't think we'd have gone for someone like Bale this summer due to Covid but it almost feel Chelsea like in the way they are starting to be ruthless. Levy would normally air with caution and wait until deadline day until we see something happening but I guess this season is make or break in a lot of ways.

The stuff about shirts is bollocks. A club gets about £10 from a £50 shirt. Nike pay us big bucks to supply the shirts so they will take the biggest percentage. If someone buys a shirt every season they won’t buy an extra one because Bale has joined. You cannot call Bale a world superstar having hardly played for 2 seasons.
We’ve got a good deal so let’s hope he can perform.

I also am not persuaded by the shirt arguments. It will result in some extra shirts, kits, but unlikely to be a huge difference in the whole shirts/kits numbers. Where it may well make a difference is on the pitch (CL placing or trophies), and on the marketing/investnment side. I'm sure Nike is happy and there will be monies to be made. Just make CL group stages next year and that's our share of his salary paid. Trophy (as it has been so long) probably does the same from memorabilia. Naming rights may get done as there is a marketing angle to this that was not there. Kane is great. Bale is a whole other level from recognition world wide. If there is anyone who can get every farthing out of it, it's DL.

We're the thick end of £150m into net spend since the stadium was finished now. I am not surprised by that in itself - I've always believed that the extra money we now generate would be spent on the team - but I am surprised that we seem to have quite a lot of money available right now, given the circumstances.

Maybe Levy found some buried treasure while the stadium was being built?
