This link could also be about getting Bournemouth to lower their price for Wilson.

If the rumor is right, it’s already at £10m, which if we aren’t comfortable paying, someone else will. I know, Daniel Levy gonna Levy, but that seems a little crazy.

your right. He thought he was amazing. That’s why he played 1 game. Jesus. The love for a player who’s never played for us and never will-it’s worse than I thought.

I’m done with my mate Memphis. He’s still shit.
Just read this post and Mourinho quotes about Depay.
Memphis Depay is reportedly available for around 30m this summer as his contract expires next summer. I would love to see him get another run at the Premier League with us. I think he's developed into a good striker and has become a very versatile player since he left United.

Jose sold him at United, but spoke very positively about him.

Memphis has said that shares mutual respect for Mourinho.

Time for the reunion? I would prefer him to Milik IMO.
Not love for a player, just saying that he isn't shit ?

I made the suggestion in another thread a couple of months back. I think he'd be decent as a backup striker and Plan B. However reading around, he might not be the best option given his form has tailed off and his fitness is in doubt.

Edouard would be nice, but right now he's a player who comes in to a mid table club and plays every game. If he came to us and just sat on the bench for 60% of the season he'd be wasting his time.

Didn't sign a striker in January so we could prize Troy Deeney away from relegated Watford in the summer. Classic Daniel.

You're putting forth no actual argument whatsoever. You just keep asserting he's "shit," and obstinately ignore all the evidence to the contrary that has been presented.

If you're going to advance an argument you need to actually substantiate it, not make mere naked assertions over and over again. You sound like a complete fucking imbecile.

Agree on both points lol

Depay struggled at Man U but he was young and too raw. Since moving to Lyon he’s been excellent and has got back into the Dutch squad where he’s also been doing very well.

Just because a player doesn’t excel or get a look-in at an elite EPL club it doesn’t mean they’re crap. Look at De Bruyne, as per Depay he was highly talented but Chelsea didn’t have the room or time to wait for him to click... he’s now at City and he’s one of the best attacking midfielders in world football.

Look who’s just won the Golden Boot - Ciro Immobile. Big money move to Dortmund - failed, decent money move to Sevilla - failed. Went to Lazio for circa £6m and he’s been on fire ever since.

I thought I clicked Troy Deeney thread....:cautious:(n)
You did, but thankfully it's been derailed quickly before anyone else starts thinking this is in any way a good idea.

Deeney from 3-4 years ago maybe, but even then there would still be a number of options I'd want us to explore first. But a 32 year old injured Deeney makes no sense whatsoever.

Think Wilson would be much better than a target man, who has actually past his best anyway.

It's true that Jose likes a CF who can be involved more but they are generally very mobile and he doesn't really have back up target man seen as we have Kane that doesn't make sense, he prefers another striker who offers something a bit different.

Think Remy, Milito, Benzema, etc a striker with a bit of pace too.

Deeney!? He’s been terrible this season
He wouldn't be my first choice signing and I doubt he'd be Mourinho's either. However, if we're simply after a stop-gap for one season, with the intention of bringing Parrott back into the first team next season, it actually makes some sense.

Is 10 goals & 2 assists in 27 games terrible? We're going to struggle to sign a better back-up to Kane, as the best players will want to start.

Aside from scoring about 1 in 3, which is not prolific but reasonable (Rashford and Martial had never bettered that until this season, yet were considered good enough for Man United), he's good at roughing up defenders and creating space for others. He could offer something similar to Heskey, who's contributions were underappreciated by most. If Kane isn't playing, he might allow our wingers / AMs to play more effectively than when we have Moura / Son upfront.

Wilson has had one good season in the PL (2018-19). Aside from that, he has been less prolific than Deeney. The stats below don't show Deeney to be anything special, but they do show Wilson is a worse option.

They've both been in the PL for the same amount of time (5 seasons), so it's easy to do a direct comparison of their PL goals scored:
Deeney - 47 goals (9.4 per season)
Wilson - 40 goals (8 per season)

If you take out each player's highest scoring season (Wilson's one good season was double his second best tally so likely to be a one-off), Wilson comes out looking even worse:
Deeney - 34 goals (8.5 per season)
Wilson - 26 goals (6.5 per season)

Can’t believe people are actually positive about this as a possible transfer. If anyone else in the top 10, never mind 6, was linked to him we’d be laughing our arses off at the thought.

Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if he was linked to Arsenal. Doubt anyone in here would be saying ‘we should be going for a player like this.’

Deeney scores a freaky amount of penalties.

I think in his top scoring season, when he hit 13, only 7 were from open play. Last season he only scored 5 from open play.

From a scouting and potential transfer perspective, counting goals scored by penalties is a bit pointless. I'm sure we'd all trust Sonny, Kane and Lucas etc from the spot.

Everton once paid a big fee for Andy Johnson, after he scored 10 pens in one season!

Manchester United signed Odion Ighalo.

Manchester United signed Odion Ighalo.

Was that really a great success and something we should copy though?

They've got Rashford, Martial and Greenwood, all of whom, if they were in our squad and Kane was injured, I'd play before Deeney or Ighalo. I think most of us would agree with that.

Ighalo has played 122 mins of Prem football and scored none. We played several games without either Kane or Son. Do we really want to be in a position that if they get injured again, or of Kane alone gets injured, we have to rely on someone like Deeney (who isn't as dangerous as Ighalo)?
