His best game last season was return leg against City in CL, I had a feeling he would do well again vs them. I wish he was better in final third against crappy teams but he is very useful against top teams. His best games were against Real Madrid and City IMO.

He's always had great acceleration. Although fans were too blind to notice it while they were busy making a him a scapegoat for all our problems this season.
No, he’s more dynamic lately. The last few games he’s been tenacious in a way he’s never been before. It might be the shift to 433, or the inclusion of GLC but he’s seems to be screening more and doing it with conviction

I think it's a lot to do with GLC. Winks has finally got a midfield partner who can match both his technique and mobility who plays in a (relatively) similar style. I thought they'd be too lightweight, but the two of them actually dovetail really nicely with Lo Celso demonstrating how to combine craft with grit and tenacity in the middle of the park without being a 6ft 3 monster.

Did you see Sky's Sunday supplement? There's a journo on there that asked him out straight at a Christmas charity thing that if Gerrard was his England hero growing up, why he doesn't choose to play like him and grab games by the scruff of the neck?

Might have hit home + surely Jose will have been saying the same? Certainly a lot more driving runs coming from midfield all of a sudden.

I thought Scott Parker was his hero and he tried to model his game on him? He's more like Parker than Gerrard but a better footballer than Parker.

Yeah he's much more naturally talented than Parker but needs to add some of his tenacity if he's going to be our fulltime DM.

His defensive work yesterday was a lot more to my liking. He covered a lot of ground checking runs in behind our fullbacks and made some very neat tackles.

I think Winks is benefitting from the change in system.

As we're playing a deeper line of defence, both Winks and Lo Celso are also playing deeper which means two things.

1) more space to dribble/sprint into evidenced by Lo Celsos runs at Southampton and Boro and Winks yesterday. Just that additional space will make it appear that they have both gained an extra yard but actually it's more a case that they have space to break into, and

2) more space to pass into the channels for our front line. JM has picked the perfect strategy for these players. They are all action running, passing, tackling up and down and as a unit they can be a solid pair (include Ndombele in that assessment).

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one. But some stink
can't be arsed to argue or be rude to anyone... my view is Winks was good but not amazing. I felt he gave the ball away to cheaply too many times as did Sanchez, also we were battered for 60 mins.. don`t understand the euphoria I still think we have a lot of improving to do.. I trust Jose to get things right but we will see how the season goes.

I wasn’t sure if Winks was going to cope with the change in position, style, injuries etc. But his performance v city has revitalized my belief in him. He’s a Spurs boy through and though. And his developing partnership with Lo Cel is so exciting. Get Ndom in the mix and what a three they could be!!
