Quotes:

"I am very, very happy. No words can describe my time at Spurs. There is no other place I can be happy," the defender said on Friday.

"I am honoured to play for this club and I'm just a small part of this club getting to the next level. If you are happy and enjoying yourself, time will fly. It's not only me, my family is very happy here.

"I have a very good connection with the club and the fans. I used to play for Ajax and I have a lot of respect for them but I'm a Spurs player now and I couldn't see myself playing for another team."

He added: "I have a love for the club. It feels like it's both ways. I think the club likes me and I love the club. It's like a dream.

"We really work for each other (as players) and want to achieve big things. We couldn't do the things we have done in the last couple of years without a very good group."

Maybe people will now give him the respect he’s deserved. Best defender at the club currently, since he arrived and potentially all time at Spurs. Unbelievable player and one of the best centerbacks in the world.

After what he did a few years ago? Really, Daniel?!?!? Also, Toby has regressed alot the last year. Not impressed with this. Sorry. I like Toby but this is a mistake.

"After what he did"? So... what did he do? Can you provide me with the specifics?

His "regression" has tied in with us being massively exposed defensively due to us being proper shit in centre midfield, and not having a proper defensive midfielder to protect the defence.

He has been very good/excellent this season. He's been tremendous since Jose took over in particular.

Really brilliant news. He's still a top class CB, and will be for another 3 years minimum.

Also gives more time for Sanchez and Foyth to develop to either partner him or eventually take over the reigns.

I completely agree. We were looking at having to replace 2 experienced, first choice centre backs in the summer which would be expensive and hard to do in one window. It now gives us a chance to give Foyth and Sanchez some more experience (as well as scout for any opportunities in the market). It also allows us to focus on some other defensive areas (left back, defensive midfield, right back and potentially goalkeeper - in that order of importance).

His whole interview was classy... classy words...

Not overly enamoured by this tbh.

Edit: To add some depth to that statement, we've had two/three years of this contract saga where its obvious the goal for him/his people have been the contract running down (and either using the low fee clause or it terminating) and increasing control of being able to move on to bigger things or a bumper payday. Injuries and whatnot have disrupted that along the way and for whatever reason it hasn't happened. To me it now looks like a player out of options, turned 30 and not as good as he was (lets be honest) and declining, and deciding this is the best gig he can get.

Yeah he's still a decent PL centre back and it's good to have one signed up, but forgive me if it leaves a bit of a sour taste.

To me it adds some credibility to the claims that Poch was a part of the reason Toby hadn't extended yet and him running down his contract weren't entirely of his own free will.

I just can imagine Jose in all serious way says to him: "Big Man I sink I need you in my system, how can I do this if you don't extend"
And Toby is getting the chills and is ready to be fleeced by Levy.
