This is really boring but it’s one game at a time. There’s no other way to approach it.

Firstly, win midweek and get the champions league group stages sown up.

Then get on with approaching each match on a game by game basis until the team get used to what Mourinho wants. Hopefully we can keep winning along the way.

Should really park this thread until February and reopen it only then.
Now, we are in the race for:
Finding confidence
Qualifying for CL knock outs
Gelling with new coaches
Lasting 90 minutes
Those are plenty of "races" to focus on.
We will see in February if top 4 a possible race or not, but why rush it.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should have pulled the plug after the Brighton game. We got humiliated against Bayern and then there was no reaction. That told the story really.

Yeah but Brighton was influenced by our captain throwing the ball into his own net then injuring himself so painfully he required gas to quell the screams of pain.

That probably ended any chance of a "reaction".

Results wise - yes.

I didn’t realise we aren’t that far behind Chelsea. We can claw that back, plus we now have the experience that they don’t. Manager and players.

So.......

We beat West Ham.

Does several somersaults and ends by leaping in the air and landing doing the splits

I take it we aren't to lock this thread now, that there's no need to rename the thread to the avoiding relegation thread and that we still might make top four.

Because we beat West Ham.

To circumnavigate the hyperbole here a little, it's more to do with the fact that we looked decent in an away for the first time in the league for a long time. Still a bit crap at the end, but it isn't a one-game difference - it's a far bigger picture thing than that.

I can see us making a run at top 4, but I think there's only 1 place up for grabs, Pool, city and Leciester are nailed on, and (balls on the line) I think Leciester are going to win the PL.

In 2012 Arsenal caught up to us in 12 matches with a larger points advantage than Chelsea currently have enjoy us. I look at the sides between us and Chelsea and feel we’ll comfortably outdo their points totals over the next 25 matches, so it’s a question of if we can average 2 points every 5 matches more than Chelsea for the rest of the season. I believe we can.

Think Tuesdays game is key, win that and we can park the CL until Feb. With no league cup we can focus purely on the league over a heavy run of fixtures.

Plenty of time to claw it back.

Exactly, and the managerial change has understandably given hope to every one. There was only one way that Pochettino team was heading, and that was the Championship. I don't say that as a joke. The players just weren't responding to him and confidence was on the floor. Whether JM is the right man we will see, but it was no doubt the correct decision to relieve Pochettino of his duties, no matter how sad it may be.

The thing is Jose coming in doesn’t just give us hope it puts doubt in some of the others, where they didn’t see us as a threat they will now.
