Do you expect him to directly quote Levy and Pochettino? So many on here treat reputable, well-established journalists the same as they'd treat some writer from the Bet365 football blog.

From my very extensive experience with "reputable, well-established journalists" over the years, I don't draw much of a distinction between a blog and an unattributed source quote. Some of those quotes are clearly nothing more than opinion anyway, and quoting opinion to substantiate opinion in the way it's done here is poor journalistic practice.

Despite that, it's not a bad piece overall, it's quite interesting and I agree with a lot of it, but it is an opinion piece.

I think the guy is a total jackass when he talks to the press but that's ok, it's the press so who cares. Maybe we need his arrogance who knows. I just have this sneaking feeling that this is George Graham all over again.

A delayed message to let it all settle in. Can’t thank this man enough for the memories, from Diers winner at Upton to Lucas in Amsterdam we have had passion injected back into our club. I am only 21 so haven’t got the fondest memories of a spurs team growing up but he’s brought us to new heights. Speaks volumes of his achievement that we have gone from Sherwood - Poch - Mourinho.

I will miss you Poch, thank you.

My mum's not happy. That's the last straw.
My old dear never quite got the hang of pronouncing Pochettino so I won't miss her butchering that.
She pronounces Jose in the way Spanish people do...'Hosay' which I'm already finding irritating.
She completely ignores any attempt to correct her so I guess I'll have to get used to it.

Yep have had a few in work nod there heads in disapproval at me !

It wasn't only mourinho that was bad there though, Man utds problems run a lot deeper than a manager.

I think Jose’s comments about getting Man U second have proven to be entirely accurate. Look how bad they are now.

Who knows how well Jose will do for us. But with the attitude of the players he clearly did an alright job at United.

I shed tears last night when I heard Poch had been sacked. I broke down with disappointment this morning when I was telling my wife the news that Mourinho has been appointed. We've sold our soul to the devil.

The devil says hi.

I've been waiting for this to happen and this is partly why I've been Poch out especially recently but basically some one-off ITK I was told about from a friend who until recently worked very closely with the players. Verified with @Archibald&Crooks and @Rob

He basically said 9-12 months ago about the behind the scenes issues.

Nothing groundbreaking but some bits below:
•At the time the environment at training and behind the scenes with poch was fairly toxic
•Poch is a complete control freak and at times players felt like it was almost like a prison with his rules and strange mannerisms and many players were starting to grow tired with this environment and his strange moods and decisions
•A number of players were upset with him for dropping Lucas for the CL final
•Poch hated certain players who he'd just freeze out and not talk to, usually the typically English 'laddy' ones like Trippier especially as he didn’t like the fact he drank so often and was a bit chavvy etc, he basically didn’t talk to him most days and only played him because we had no one else, again this kind of behaviour started to unsettle the group (explains why Trippiers confidence was shot all last season and why he left in the summer)
•He basically said that he could see our form continuing to get worse and the CL run to the final was masking the behind the scenes issues and that this coupled with Poch flirting in the media with other jobs etc was only going to end one way soon.

So all nothing groundbreaking but similar to other previous ITK this has been a long time coming unfortunately :(

So it’s out of date ITK so to speak but I didn’t want to share it back then as it was quite sensitive like the Trippier stuff etc, but now it’s happened and he’s out I thought you guys may be interested to be aware of a few of these things and that not all was 'Rosey' in the Poch garden for some time and that it wasn't just a case of Levy not backing him and that Poch kind of engineered his own downfall so to speak which is a real shame given what he did for the club.

As the dust settles on the last few hours it will be interesting to see what futures our players have and who was looking to play for Spurs and who was playing for Poch. I don't say it literally but we know that the likes of Hugo bought into Poch's philosophy early on which encouraged him to stay with us when he may well have looked to move elsewhere.

Others have a fresh slate, chance to earn a contract (possibly) and a place in the side.

Thanks for this. It fills in a lot of gaps in knowledge that we've been begging to be filled for a year.

In hindsight I would have rather stayed at the old WHL and build on 2016/17 which was a season when we went unbeaten at home, broke our points record, scored the most goals and conceded the fewest.

The soul of the place went slowly after that with Wembley being a shit ground to play home games, essentially a self-imposed transfer hiatus, contracts running down, and then the farce of the moving into the new ground. All this frustrated fans so no doubt players and staff were annoyed. To me the decision last night killed it. That's just my view. Pochettino had the rug pulled from beneath him after 2016/17 yet he kept us in the Top 4 and got us to a UCL Final.

I reckon he'll get to another UCL Final again before we do.

Well Daniel, you've got balls, I'll give you that. But after this, the buck really does stop with you.

IMO, Poch had earned the chance to rebuild this squad - and no question it needs a rebuild. Pochettino's philosophy is all about intensity and team spirit and it was remarkably effective with a young and eager group of players as they were a few years back.
Whether it is age, cynicism, or just nonchalance, this cycle was over, and his magic with this group of players was spent. But what went wrong here started a few years back, when we failed to refresh over two consecutive transfer windows.

Perhaps this was Poch's fault, a refusal to compromise on overly ambitious targets like De Jong. There has always been a narrative in which these things are never Levy's fault.

What cannot be denied is that for Levy, over these 5 years with the stadium build and other infrastructure improvements, Pochettino was a gift from the gods. A manager who massively overachieved on our budget, a team player who for so long towed the party line - We have to operate differently, you cannot compare us to clubs with resources like United, City, Liverpool etc. And this is why it seemed to make sense to write this season off and allow him to rebuild, to see if he could once again deliver the results we crave within Spurs' special circumstances.

Because let's be clear, Mourinho is not that guy.

Of course I can understand the appeal and the timing. Mourinho is desperate to prove the naysayers wrong and his record is quite simply out of this world. His one apparent failure was finishing second and winning three trophies - the stuff of our dreams.

And just as Pochettino will rightly feel aggrieved that he was not given the credit for turning around this club and for over achieving for too long within our budget, Mourinho too can feel aggrieved that his star had fallen so far so quickly that he was without a suitable offer for the best part of a year. And if Pochettino was the man for Phase 1, is there anyone more likely to walk in and squeeze the best out of this jaded squad? If you are going to prioritise the likes of Eriksen and Alderweireld over the short term, ahead of Mauricio over the long term, then who better than a special one with a point to prove. This might just be another god send for our Daniel.

But Levy failed to back Pochettino when he needed to, and whatever has been happening behind the scenes, it is clear that broken promises were certainly a factor in Poch turning sour. Mourinho will never be a "yes" man, nor is he the coach to undertake another youthful revolution.
Whether or not in the long term interests of the club, he will almost certainly demand the changes to our transfer and wage policies that Pochettino didn't get.

So what promises have you been given José and will these ones be kept?

Whatever happens, one thing is clear. Like him or loathe him, Mourinho is a winner. He has never failed to deliver results and silverware at any any club throughout a truly exceptional career. If Tottenham becomes the one true stain on his CV, there will be no favourable narrative this time. Like I say, the buck stops with you now Mr Levy…

I don't think Poch has been very polite to the press the last six months, either.

Sums up perfectly what we're all feeling for the guy right now. Sadness, gratitude and great affection. I'm not on any kind of social media but I hope he's being bombarded with love from all of us Spurs fans who'll never forget what he did for us, and who wish him all the best for the future.

Mourinho would be a shocking choice. 10 behind the ball and he was appalling at United. He's lost it, the modern game has passed his style.
Mourinho left united as a flop but 12 months later we look at his tenure as them overachieving
