What has happened to Sissoko? Was last season a blip?
No. People mistook effort power and pace with ability. Little fleeting moments of excitement do not equal controlling football matches. We lost 21 games last year dont make the mistake thinking we were good.

This is no blip.

Last season you could excuse the performances because there were too many individual elements working against us that are likely never going to align in the same way again: Wembley, injuries, World Cup (no pre-season for most of the players) and no signings at all. Plus, the Champions League masked over most of the shit.

It's still very early days, but we've picked up from where we've left off, and I think that's because it's essentially still the same side. Until Ndombele gets to grips with the league, we've still effectively not replaced Dembele. Eriksen isn't playing due to maybe being off, and Lo Celso is in the same position as Ndombele, so we're without an Eriksen replacement until that's the case. Sessegnon is obviously injured, too, so there's that.

So in essence, all three of our new signings are nowhere near at the level we need them to be - we've not moved from last year. When you couple that with the fact that Pochettino teams are notoriously slow starters (even in 16/17 - our best season - we didn't get going until January performance-wise) then we're in for a rough few months; why we're always such slow starters is something that seriously needs to be questioned, but that's a different conversation altogether.

That doesn't excuse today's shitshow of a performance - there was enough quality out there to beat a crap Newcastle side - but I think it does explain why we look as bad as we've done all year long.

I could be wrong and there could be something bigger going on behind the scenes, but I think we'll be ok in a few months time with a bit of luck.

He's the same exact player. He's not a hub of creativity, and he should never be playing against a side like Newcastle who will just sit deep. He's best used on the break, against teams that will hold possession and give him space to run in to. That's never happening against a Steve Bruce side.
Fucking Bingo!!

We need to see players being used more specific to the needs of the game. Sissoko is great running into space, not against a packed defence. He’s fantastic for a number of things but him and Winks in central midfield was completely pointless today

For our state of mind a decision needs to be made about Eriksen.

Personally I feel Pochettinho has handled the situation wrong. It's clear Eriksen is holding out for Madrid. I would of kept Eriksen away from the first team until the European window closed or a contact signed. There's no point him being on the bench

Sissoko has to be managed and it's time for Dier to be reinstated. I pray we don't rush Dele back imo he needs to heal has been missed BADLY.

I hope we can really learn from this result...

Serious question, has Poch actually grown a monster of an ego that is now devouring him? Nothing he seems to say (to the press) or do (regarding the team) seems to make any sense anymore, or has he just gone stark raving bonkers?!!!

We haven’t played consistently well for at least 12 months

From what I've read the premier League referees don't want to use the monitors as it takes too much time. They've said that they trust whoever's in the VAR studio to make the right decision.

Sounds like they just want to pass the buck to the guys in the VAR room instead of taking more responsibility on debatable decisions on the pitch.

VAR shouldn't even have been needed for the foul on Kane, because it was so "clear and obvious" without the benefit of a replay. If Deane somehow couldn't see the contact from his view, the linesman certainly could have.
VAR should have been used for the Son appeal, because there is no way Deane could have been certain there was no contact with the player before the ball (because there was!).

Missing the point.

No chance we learn from this.

We’ll obviously lose next week, that’s a guarantee of late. We turn up there and bend over and especially given how poor we’ve been this season so far, it’s done.

Hopefully Eriksen stays and gets his head right for this season then leaves on a free because if we are relying on Lamela as our creative spark we won’t finish anywhere near top 4. He’s fucking shit

15 points from 15 games wow. We have one of the best 3 squads in the league as well, yet the players look clueless.

Is Poch's mind gone? We really need to take a hard look on how we operate cause 15 games is not just "bad form".

I just don't get why we're so negative and pedestrian these days in possession.

In the CL final we didn't actually try and score for 80 minutes. This seems now to be our standard way of playing. Pass sideways for 90% of the game then think 'shit we need to actually shoot to score don't we?!' Have a go but by then it's too late.

What I would give for a bit of Liverpool's dynamism and positivity in possession. Genuinely think we have the players to compete but we just don't even try and put teams to the sword.

Bag on him all you want, but Sissoko put more quality crosses into the box in the 10 minutes he was playing at RB than KWP did the whole rest of the game.

Nothing as extreme, just a simple, petulant huff with Levy that he's taking out on the rest of us.
