https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...s-club-he-wants-to-quit-this-transfer-window/Just read the interview again. He’s says it would ‘not be something negative to stay’, which is not quite the same as saying it would make him happy.
He also says he would ‘like to try something new’, twice.
I don’t think he’ll sign personally, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I agree I don't think he will either and I'm not sure I can massively blame him. When players like Ramsey are getting 400k pw and moving to elite clubs just because they are "free" it must be tempting as a player to set your family up for life. Not like you have to go to China nowadays to earn crazy money
Exactly. He's been priced out of a move this summer, but next year he'll probably have his pick of Europe's top clubs, all of whom will pay him more than what he'd earn by staying here.

Apologies for linking a Paul Jiggins article, but it at least has all the quotes. Those indicating he’d not taken a new Spurs contract out of his thinking:
“I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That’s the plan.
“Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football takes things time.
“It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come in. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can’t set a date yourself.”
“It is hard. It depends on the possibilities and nothing pops up that is more exciting, why not stay in Tottenham?
“If I then sign a new contract, depends on the conditions.”
Yeah, agree. As I said I think that’s a big plus for Lamela.
Son is no fucking way going to take a rotational role. He’ll be putting in a transfer request at the end of the season.
I think Eriksen will stay this season and leave on a free next year and there will be a number of clubs that will be after him then. He's a great player to get on a freebie and would be the signing of the season for someone.
I think what makes sense for all parties is to agree a deal, four years let’s say, but have a clause in it saying that if an overseas champions league club bids £x, we accept, if a domestic champions league club bids £x+£20m, we accept, etc etc. That way, if he performs well enough to attract those bids, a) great, it means he’s had a blinder and b) we get fair whack but he’s still affordable.Ok, that one is more encouraging, but I'm still not convinced it makes sense for him to commit this summer. We'll see I guess.

It also protects him because if a club is willing to pay a high fee, then they’re signing him to be in the side, not make up the numbers.
Thats not how things are done in 2019....Read the interview again.
At the end of the day we don’t want to lose him for free while he’s in his prime. At least if we lost Toby or Jan next summer, they’ll be 31 and 33 respectively, losing Eriksen at 28 for free is burning money. At least a deal with a clause that takes him to the age of 31 protects everyone.Yeah, the only way it makes for me is if there's a Real Madrid/Barca clause in there somewhere. That would seem to suit all parties.
Interesting theory yet to be discussed. I look forward to the debate that ensures. What are the odds
Signing Eriksen means that we won’t sign LoCelso?
While I am sure we're all happy with this news, firstly I'll wait to see if the details of his contract come out, then also see if we add to squad even with him staying.
Lastly, he courted this move away from Spurs 'for a new challenge' to either Barca or Real and it means they were never that interested. I love it when a fall back plan comes together ...
Has a player ever publicly stated he wants a new challenge before going on to sign a new contract a few weeks later?
