That’s the first time I’ve properly watched him and paying close attention

He was woeful, just one game I know but it would have even been a shocking performance for Serge

He was fast, that’s about all I can say as a positive

He did make a great recovering sliding tackle as the attacker ran into the box.

He was definitely out of sorts though.

Own goal aside, I think he was quite good defensively..? Not to mention his team was down a player for 30+ minutes.

He seemed to get caught too far up the wing when we lost possession in our own half (which we did too much). But that might’ve been the instructions- push up

The reason they value him at £70m is that they don’t want to lose him. If they are to lose him they want to be properly compensated for it.

Win/win for them

Exactly, when Clubs attach ridiculously high valuations to players means they're desperate to keep them and only a huge bid, way above a more realistic valuation, will likely be accepted.

Love when people make decisions on players in one game in a u-21 tournament vs how they performed for a whole season in the best league in the Europe.

Hard to make a decision otherwise, when it's only the third time I've seen him.

I know he has been off his game but isn't this what Trippier has been getting abuse for most of the season?

One time he gave away the ball poorly in his own half, which is an automatic lynching for RBs on here.

I certainly didn't think he was excellent against us at all.

He had a solid game but nothing spectacular. He’s a good player but certainly not worth what’s being bandied about. He probably was struggling with that last night to be fair. It was his first performance since all this transfer stuff began so it probably effected him.

What's he like going forward?

28ish of the 38 games we play will be against teams who are sitting back for most of the game, our fullbacks will be attacking more than they have to defend. Sess could be that kind of player for us on the left, just need someone who can do it from the right.

Pretty envious of the Dippers having Trent and Robinson.

Still not read anything in this thread that makes me think that he's any higher up the club's transfer target list than a general acknowledgement that he exists.

It’s the flip side of people watching, at most, three Palace games and deciding “pay anything they want and we’ll be set at RB for a decade”. Both are silly.

Yup. For me, he’s a player with excellent potential who could, with a bit of experience, turn out to be a top class full back.

But you’re buying potential, not the finished article.

I can see why you’d pay over the odds to get Ndombele, but for him you’d be OK paying 40 or so, but you just can’t justify the figures being bandied around because he’s not that player yet

I watched the 2nd half last night and AWB showed me pretty much what I expected to see but also some things that I did not.

He defended well, he was beaten once that I can recall but still made a good challenge to clear the ball for a corner just before the winger got a shot off. His one on one defending is certainly his strength but as shown with the OG - which was absolutely criminal btw - he's still clearly a young player that lacks some awareness and in-game maturity.

From an attacking perspective he was positive and got forward often. He made one good cut back which could and maybe should've led to a goal but the attacking player got it stuck under his feet.

Certainly agree that you can't judge him solely on this performance, if you did then he certainly wouldn't be worth 50-70m. That said, there were some red flags there and I do think that stylistically he might not be the right fit for us.

He really needs to stay at Palace. He's not ready for a big move IMO and it could easily go the same way as Zaha's failed Utd move if he does.
