FFS why did you have to go and say that before tomorrow. First goal scorer at the new stadium now nailed on.
Was kinda hoping someone would find a gif of it, always makes me smile.

Plus, I'd completely forgotten about him being at palace

As someone who's been banging the drum for Diawara for 18 months now I'll take a crack at justifying it.

I don't follow Napoli extremely closely, so I'm not sure what explains the fact that he hasn't played much other than that he was stuck behind Jorginho under Sarri and that Alan has been preferred under Ancelotti. There's little shame in that given how highly regarded those two players are in Italy -- we all know how coveted Jorginho was by all of the richest clubs in England, and Alan is reportedly seen as the solution to PSG's midfield problems. On a couple of occasions this year I've checked in with Napoli supporters on Reddit to see what the deal is with Diawara, and both times was told by multiple people that when he plays he plays well and shows his potential, but that he's just out of favor compared to their other options. Those are just a handful of anecdotes, so who knows what they're worth.

More importantly than his situation at Napoli is that, IMO, he possesses all of the attributes we need in a DM. He has both the athleticism necessary to shield the back line and the ability on the ball to kick-start our attacks and get us attacking on the front foot. When you watch his film it's readily apparent that he's adept at playing balls through the lines with his first or second touch, something that we are sorely lacking. He'd be a good fit tactically at the base of a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 diamond, which seems to be where Poch is taking us.

In short, he's a young player with lots of potential who would seem to fit what we need tactically, and who is readily available and fits within our budgetary constraints.

Right back and central midfield need to be the priorities. If we don't sign someone for both positions then the summer will be another failure.

If we have anything left after filling those roles then I think Lozano is a no brainer as well. He's ready for the step up and he would fit us perfectly.

Lozano would be great for us. As you say he’s ready for the step up and I can see him becoming a sort of slightly budget Suárez. His desire and eye for goal would add a lot to our side. He’s also on the way up

“Erik Lamela has also been added to the injury list after suffering a hamstring strain on Saturday.”

I’m not sure that can even be considered “team news” at this point. It’s not news to anyone anymore. I thank Erik for his service but he needs to be moved on if he cannot be relied upon for fitness.

Smashing our highest wage will have significant consequences for every other contract negotiation we have, not just that one. It is not just one player. It is Kane thinking he should immediately earn the same and Eriksens contract negotiations and player X and Y and Z in perpetuity.

We so lucky we don't have this problem... Unlike Everton, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and United:cautious:.

My argument wasn’t that he is or isn’t good enough. My argument is that no amateur fan can have such confidence in Diawara the real human’s ability. There’s simply not enough evidence to go on. Even if you are the sort of fan who religiously watches the last half hour of Napoli games when he trots on, you won’t have seen enough to suggest he’ll be a great buy.

Surely what we want is players who can (or will be able to) improve the team, not players who are merely attainable.

There are no such guarantees that any player will perform to any levels. All of our opinions are based on what we have seen or had pointed out to us. I never suggested that we should buy him simply because he's attainable, but the fact that he most likely is available and looking to move makes him a more realistic proposition than de Jong ever was or N'Dombele is likely to be. He needs to get away from Napoli and I think Poch could really develop him into a great player. Just my opinion.

I thought this was an interesting report that our scouts were impressed with this young guy at Lille who hasn't played much but is a hot prospect in the French age group sides. We need to unearth a diamond from somewhere with our limited budget.

He is a hot prospect in France. He’s been compared to Paul Pogba and tore it up for France recently in a youth game. He is a realistic target but he won’t be the answer t any problems in 19/20

At the moment we just need to add quality in midfield. If we could add this guy for the future, coming off the bench, and then a more expensive midfielder to slot in alongside Winks, that would look like a plan.

Dream wish list signing atm.

Happy to sell Eriksen this summer and use the money to buy Coutinho. Wages, etc make it unrealistic I’m sure but he would fit our style of play perfectly.
Especially vs the teams that park 9/10 men when we get stuck with no ideas.
This guy can go past two or three in a flash, reverse pass the gaps and be a real key.
Not many upgrades on Eriksen out there but this would be one.

The more I see of de Paul, the more I like him.
A hardworking midfielder with a bit of the playmaker about him.
I watch quite a lot of Udinese (my local team), and since he's been moved back from a number 10 to more of a midfielder, he's impressed.
I also like Fofana, a real rough diamond, but I'm not totally convinced he'd make the cut at Spurs.

Speaking of Udinese, weren't we linked with Stevenage's Ben Wilmot last year?
He's now at Udine on loan from Watford.
