Holy shit WTF did I see happen last night after the fight?
Far as the fight itself goes, Khabib proved he's the GOAT and Conor isn't anything like the fighter he was a few years ago as he lost every round. That's fine but the crazy behaviour of Khabib after the fight, jumping over the octagon and attacking Conor's coaches is probably going to get him stripped of the title and possibly thrown out of the country. Dana said three of Khabib's team have already been arrested, one of them presumably for entering the octagon after the fight, amid all the chaos, and punching Conor.
Incredible, shameful scenes but in Khabib's possible defence, Conor went too far pre-fight and insulted Khabib's family and questioned his heritage and obviously these are the sorts of things which should never be used to hype up a fight so yes, Conor probably overstepped the mark and broke the boundaries...but having said that, Khabib's temporary insanity after winning the fight is going to have major repercussions and none of them good.
Even some minutes after the fight was stopped, and Khabib was still ranting and fuming, it took a umber of his friends to try to calm him down. Friends like Luke Rockholt and Daniel Cormiere but he was still screaming for his belt, but Dana refused to put the belt on him for fear of what might happen inside the arena, which was packed withIrish fans.
In all my years of watching theUFC, I have never ever seen anything like that. I do have some sympathy for Khabib and actually a lot of respect for Conor as he had nothing to do with what went on after the fight, so he'll be seen as the big victim in all this, but apparently, his team were goading Khabib from outside the cage, and once he'd submitted Conor, he just snapped and went completely crazy.
Fuck me. Unbelievable scenes. It's just a shame UFC 229 won't be remembered for the incredible, dominant performance by Khabib, but for all the shocking shenanigans which followed afterwards.
I'd say Conor would have to retire now. He was not much more than a shadow of his former self.
