This is what sanity sounds likeI think the reason people may sound a little apprehensive in their comments here is that it seems like the ITK has gotten a little less optimistic and a little more realistic as this window has opened and progressed (albeit a very short amount of time). This is in no way a criticism of the ITKs as we all very much appreciate them sharing what they hear. But for instance, Herc sounded very very optimistic in early May (update 11), sharing info that Spurs will spend more than $150mill that does not rely on sales, and that they wanted three priority signings in early, possibly four.
In update 18, Herc shared info that said "We are willing to sanction those deals (if they can be done relatively quick) before selling." So people started to think that the $150mill wasnt net spend so that put a bit of a damper on things.
Today he shared that the team hopes to get two (instead of three or four) in before August (although he did say "at the very least"). I just think the word "August" is what most people saw and got a little worried because that is after the World Cup and two months away. Yes it could be before that, but it seemed like getting deals done early meant before the WC.
I would guess that some are hearing this info (including me) and are wondering if this is Levy backtracking on his promises to Poch and if Levy just can't help himself by waiting and stretching things out to get a better deal. I think there is also maybe some bad luck at work here as for instance it sounded like Sess was on as long as they didn't get promoted, and well, they got promoted. DeLigt seemed to be on as well but then other bids got up near $70 mill and Spurs are priced out (which most would agree is sensible on their part). It sounded like Toby would be sold for a good price and now it sounds like they are having trouble there. So maybe a combo of Levy's history of stalling plus a difficult market is affecting outlooks here. Sounds like they had big plans but have had to adapt those plans a little due to things they can't control.
I think a big signing in the next two weeks or so before the WC starts would go a long way to making fans feel optimistic. For instance, if even just one of Martial or Pulisic or whoever is finalized and announced soon, then any anxiety of Levy being Levy would likely go away. If nothing happens before the WC however, well then things get more worrisome.
