Aren't both of those equally bad ways of looking at things?
I'm not sure about that. If you take a completely different player with amazing technical skills, but lesser other attributes, for example Glenn Hoddle. He was criminally underused by England precisely because people focused on what he couldn't do rather than what he could.
It's a common theme over the years. I'm not saying you're wrong I just prefer to look at it that way.
