Did you mean Strauss instead of Cook, Monty? Cook was pretty poor. Nevertheless the batting was average, Collingwood and Bell need to step up for the next test. I agree with TrueYid, we are lacking the big opening partnerships which the Strauss and Trescothik partnership provided. But I doubt England would consider putting Cook at no3(even thought he played there against Pakistan), as it doesn't look like Trescothk is going to play for England for a long time. So i'd guess England see Cook and Strauss as the opening partnership for the foreseeable future.

Here's one. I reckon these conditions are far more unfair for the batsman than facing Vaughan and Panesar under cloud at Lord's.

What's the difference? In both cases, it's the weather that has done it - cloud at Lord's, rain at Nottingham.

Why have England been forced to bat in this when the umpires were so quick to get the players off against the 'danger' of Vaughan and Panesar?

Also, it's clearly quite hard to see out there, because Simon Taufel can't see when a batsman is standing a yard out of his crease and gets hit nearer the bollocks than the kneeroll. That's not out, Simon.

Right, tongue out of cheek now.

India were quality today. Yes it was a great toss to win, but you've got to back that up with the ball.

Strauss and Collingwood won't be overly impressed with their shots, but there was some quality bowling out there.

But what has Cook done to upset the umps? He seems a nice enough lad, but they can't wait to get shot of the poor sod. Three dodgy lbws in three innings now.

Fuck me, have you ever seen a spawnier partnership in your life?

How Karthik's still there I have no idea. Must have used at least 27 of his nine lives.

England are fucked here, unless there's a dramatic switch in allegiance from the weather gods.

Freddies back with a twenty five,he could be included the next match especially if England lose this one.

Definitely not. He'll be lucky to be back for the one-dayers. He's playing only as a batsman for Lancashire, so is nowhere near consideration for the Test team.

Despite what he says, Freddie is a bowler who bats not the other way round. Until he's bowling again, you just can't consider leaving out any of England's current top six to get him back in the side.

I agree he is better with the ball, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Ten quick wickets tomorrow. No bother.

Or not. Vaughan was fucking brilliant today though. Superb - back to his best.

India deserve the victory, they have bowled and batted extremely well, I am glad that for the first time in a while there is a bit of a match up.

I back England to bounce back and draw level at the Oval

But just think, if we would have a proper five tests series with India instead of these silly two series' every year, would have been fantastic.

England V India, 5 tests, and 5 ODI and a couple of 20twenty matches would have been fine and would have made for a great contest

Instead we have 7 tests, 4 of which were boring as cack, and then 3 tests against two evenly matched competitive sides and yet we may not get to see who's the better side overall.

All this in between between 2 world cups, and around 15 one day games.

Ridiculous

Yeah, I agree with True Yid. The test series should be 5 tests. It makesit more interesting. Also well done to Vaughan who played a real captains knock, back to his best i say. Btw what is all this nonsense surrounding the 'jelly bean' incident?

Some say the Jelly Beans were to indicate the shaking of the batsmans legs waiting for the bowler to bowl.

 Completely agree. Unfortunately, for as long as there are these 'reciprocal agreements' we're going to have to put up with shitloads of wanky one-dayers because that's where the money is made for the Indian board.

Unfortunately, the days of one five-Test series a summer are gone for good with the requirement to play everyone home and away on a five-year cycle.

I'm sure the ECB would have loved these series to be the other way round, but unfortunately we played three on our last tour of India and four on our last tour of West Indies, so it was never going to happen.

Hey England, here's an idea - pick a proper fucking wicketkeeper instead of some gobby bore with cymbals for gloves on the off chance that he'll get the odd 50.

Matt Prior is rapidly climbing the Tickers Shitlist, the list the players fear.

Credit to Kumble for getting a century. Prior is a very poor wicketkeeper, he has conceded a record number of byes this series. The selectors should seriously consider bringing back Reid for the test series in Sri Lanka.
