My only concern about KWP is that he didn't seem to have as much pace as I had expected. Maybe he was playing within himself, but there were a couple of times when Eriksen showed more pace when closing people down in our RB area.

It's only Newcastle, and they played with 10 men for almost half the match, but seeing our side defend well and get a clean sheet is always promising.

Solid start. Great to be up and running with a win.

Think he's still getting himself orientated. When he gets his bearings he'll optimise.

So what do you suggest by easily creating more chances, we'd have to be more attacking which inevitably leaves more space at the back should they counter right? So I don't see how you cannot conclude that they possibly would have made more chances?

What's the point of exerting energy in a match we'd already won especially when we have Chelsea next week?
Let's just agree to disagree. (y)

No expectation, and he gave away a silly penalty that was saved by an offside flag as I said at the time, but plenty to work with and on

Not really sure why so many people are so adverse to piling expectation on him tho. We're never short of doing that to others who've looked far less impressive

I'd have been pissed off if that had been adjudged a pen had play not been stopped for offside. The guy jumped into him.

Nothing wrong with fans expecting good things from KWP. Poch, his coaching staff and his team mates will keep his feet on the ground. We must be the best team in the Prem to be a lad coming through an academy. None of the other top sides give youth a chance like we do.

As for the performance, we got the job done. Tough fixture going there for first game. Shame Kane couldn't put his August hoodoo to bed. We didn't really get out of 3rd gear though. Want a big improvement in intensity next weekend against the blue scum. Want a bug statement in our first game at Wembley.

Was surprised by the lack of atmosphere, thought the self proclaimed best fans in the world would have been well up for their first game back in the Prem.

I hear a United chant and honestly thought the supporters were in the car park.

Good result and gets up and running.
KWP had a very solid game, but I agree with Poch 100%, he is not our solution to the RB for the season. Obviously that's going to be Trippier anyway, but at least KWP did show that hs is ready to be a decent stand in as an when required and learn.

His positioning was not always there and he did get a tad fortunate with the offside, or we might have been discussing a penalty. He also looked for the pass into the middle rather than the pull back, which I felt was Walker's signature move last season (other than passing into the stand), so there is work to be done, because that was often quite effective, but that's to be expected. He is young and looks a good prospect, so no complaints really from me, he had a very solid debut, but I admit I would prefer to have Trippier available for Chelsea.

I would have made Christian MOTM, thought he was at the heart of all that was dangerous today and made us tick.

Shelvey was an idiot, he cost his side and Rafa will be fuming, because first half, they were a fraction more dangerous than we were, all be it we controlled the ball better.

In hindsight that offside where KWP brought down Gayle (I think) could prove to be so fucking important in this lads progression, hate to think what the knock in confidence would be to give away a pen 10 mins into your PL debut.
He grew throughout the match and barely put a foot wrong after that...really nice to see more experienced players Dier/Toby/Jan giving him constant praise when he did something well, which was pretty much every time he did anything...I'm guessing that was instruction from Poch.

Brain is more important than having pace just look at full backs over the years like lahm zabaleta GN and many more and it seems he has a brain and he's certainly not slow
