It's controversial but I'd rather we'd got "wazza". I know he's almost done career wise but he's won things, brings experience and could help mentally I would of thought... Barkley. I don't even think the Everton fans are that bothered by us getting him. It's a bad sign.
Couldn't think of anything worse than paying Rooney 250k a week to wheeze around Wembley. His best years have long since gone. Just cause a player has won things in their career doesn't automatically make them an attractive signing.

with Sessegnon out and Lemar seemingly off this looks to be our marquee signing of the summer. Im feeling deflated.

I am not sure if this is a general feeling across our fan base.

Below is Barkley contribution in PL
2013/14 - 6 goals, 2 assist - Direct Involvement - 8
2014/15 - 2 goals, 2 assist - Direct Involvement - 4
2015/16 - 8 goals, 8 assist - Direct Involvement - 16
2013/14 - 5 goals, 9 assist - Direct Involvement - 14

Often when talking about Barkley ,we hear how bad/average he has been in last 2 seasons. Really ? Above numbers doesn't show that to me. I believe the hype on him was so much , people forgot he is/was still raw.

If we get him, IMO could be signing of the season - for fact that he would come with lower expectation and probably help him settle faster. He has improved in last 2 seasons interms of creativity end product. May be with players like Kane, Dele, Eriksen, Son , Rose, Trippier , Dembele around him, he could go up a level IMO.

You are so wrong. Rooney would be a great signing; big ego, diminishing 'talents', high expectations borne of an era of financial dominance and league/broadcaster complicity. You'd really have to rack your brain to find any way that that could go wrong. We could also look at Wes Brown and John O'Shea as they have 'won things' and 'have experience" in a similar fashion. Would be great for our young and committed team lead by our strong leader who demands individual sacrifice for the collective. But if Poch ain't up to it we could 'give it to Giggsy'. And while we are at it let's go whole hog and get Fergie in to ring in the old 2 team PL league era.

I mean, look how Rooney sacrificed and 'fit in' with many of our players in the Euros. People say his dropping into midfield disrupted their shape and his sending of useless, floaty passes out to the right channel (over and over and over and over) wasn't helpful to team play. I say that his genius is merely misunderstood. Games are won and lost in the midfield so "if some is good, more is better" adding another ample body into our midfield would go swimmingly. And since we will be at Wembley on that 'big pitch' we will need those big, slow, floaty balls out to the right side.

And as for his 'wheezing'...that's just LOL.

Barkely will be this years Wanyama. The ability is there, in our system, under our coaches he'll excel. Playing for Everton, yes they are a decent team but havent got the solid base that we have, don't create space like we do, don't have the quality throughout the pitch nor the consistency.

It's funny how the mood changes the less likely it is we were in for anyone else. Couple of months ago more people were agreeing there's better options out there or we should be aiming higher, now it's heavily weighted to him being a good signing.

I have barely seen any progression at all since he broke on the scene. I don't want him getting in Winks way and I don't see him as being an alternative to Son. In my mind he's a back up to Eriksen, a clear improvement to Sissoko in the squad but I'm pretty underwhelmed. I've a slight concern that even if Son is in form Barkley would have to start Prem games and I really don't like the sound of a Eriksen Dele Barkley three balance wise.

I'll cheer Ross on just like I have every player but I'm way on the side of it being a poor signing. Truth is it's probably 50/50. Poch is incredible and if he turns him into a top class player he really is magic.

Barely any progression and he's still quadrupled his outpout. I wonder what he could do if he actually had someone like Poch to coach him ;)

Well, if Swansea want £50m for Sigurdsson, Everton will definitely look for the same for Barkley.

We need to more depth to be able to compete effectively in both the Champions league and prem. That's why attacking signings like Barkley are important. With the amount of running we do as a team we can't be expected to roll out the same 11 twice a week.

Barkley's current contract position leaves Everton more vulnerable than Siggy's at Swansea. Having said that, Everton may be willing to let Barkley run down his contract.

I don't think there's a chance in hell we'll get him for £20m. £30-35m minimum.

You're probably right they will want £50m but unless one of the other big sides bid for him I still think the balls in our court. Although, the downside is it will mean there will be a stand off until they relent in the last week or two of the window and we get him for a more realistic price.

Somwheee between your number and mine is probably the truth , though I suspect the Bald Eagle would probably add in clauses in his contract of sale for Barkley's fees to rise dependant on him becoming the first transgender man riding a ceberus on Mars

Could just about swallow £20m but £35m for a player of his level who has one year left on his contract and we're relying on our manager to make him something. Christ.
I think you're being a bit harsh on his current ability to be honest. He got 14 goals and assists last season, which, whilst not on the level of Son, Alli or Eriksen, is still a decent number.
