Hard to watch that. You wonder what the pressure to find a way out of military service is playing a role in his performances.

It's a horrible thing to have hanging over you I imagine.

I really don't down vote posts but I have to here.

He won us points last year and pushed us forth in Europe. He might not have dazzled, but please let a kid settle and get some run.

His performance with Korea is hit or miss just like Rooney, Kane, Dele, and the rest. And he was playing for a lesser team. So really I don't see why we are so harsh on him. His per minutes stats probably aren't that bad and I believe it was against Chelsea where he pressed like a possessed man. He has it in him just give him a chance. No way we are selling him.

This thread is actually quality in how quickly opinion changed on him. I remember and joined in the delirium when he joined and I remember how sad people were when he got injured after City. He had some good games last season and some bad ones but at least he helped us to where we finished. Lamela did literally nothing for about two seasons or one and a half and there's a real following behind him now (he deserves it though for his growth). Who's to say Son can't improve like that? Think we'll see a good season for him if Poch fully integrates him into the team and he'll challenge for a starting place.

Each player is different, the development of one player can in no way, shape or form predict the development of another player. Some players simply are bad buys, and extreme amounts of patience is not necessarily the way forward with every single player that pulls on the lilywhite shirt. Just because one make it over time doesn't mean that we must stack up on average player and sit back and wait until they become world stars.
I wouldn't sell Son yet, but that's more because I dislike selling players (for a loss) after one season than it's because I think he will become so incredibly great.

The thing is Son has actually done things of merit so I believe he deserves time. I'm quite shocked at how many want him gone so soon

Yes. I don't get it at all. He was injured for a long time but came back and scored a few important goals for us. I don't know why so many people think he has hit the ceiling of his potential, especially with him having an injury disrupted season, moving to a new country and league and only being 23.

Isn't too much different to the lamela hate not too long ago.
Alot of people on this forum, like 90% were dancing at the prospect of lamela being sold for 16 million and njie coming in to replace him

Totally agree with you both. The guy scored 8 goals last season, including 'big' goals against Watford, Chelsea and Leicester and he contributed a handful of assists. He looked very sharp when he first joined us and he clearly offers us something different from our other attacking options.

It's very one-sided over the last posts, though. I think we all know that Son scored a few goals. However, he also "showed off" some severe flaws that can be difficult to coach for improvement. And if we are going to point to how fans approach other players, repeatedly (Chadli?) we've read on SC that a player must do more than score the occasional goal to be worth keeping.

Lamela tried too hard but went back to basics and started to work his ass off for the team and eventually started to combine an excellent work rate whilst also creating chances/scoring goals.

Granted Son looked very good before his injury and pretty dreadful afterwards. What I don't like with regard Son is how he performed at the Olympics. You would think with the real threat of national service hanging over his head that he would work his arse off and fight for his team?

Well this is why I'm disappointed as against Honduras he couldn't have been any worse. He got in some good positions but wasted chances due to poor decision making... there was one instance were he opted to shoot when a player was 6 yards out with an open goal in front of him. Some players would have still taken the shot but from the angle he was on, you would still be expected to hit the target. In Son's case it went several yards wide.

What was worse was the amount of times he had the ball on the wing in the final 3rd... he'd show some nice touches, beat his man but instead of doing something positive with it he kept randomly laying the ball off without looking and giving it straight to the opposition. One of these instances set up the Honduras counter attack which lead to the goal. To compound this and not just for this Honduras attack, when he lost the ball he didn't bother to track back or try and win the ball. Poor decision making can be worked on but poor work ethic is unacceptable. With his nuts on the line he should have been working his ass off and not ambling about with his usual big cheesy grin and acting like it's all a bit of fun.

Looking forward to getting him back into the squad - we just need to write off last season as a dud mainly due to injury. Hopefully he can remain fit and find some form with us as he has the potential to be a very dangerous player.

I think Son works far harder than Chadli ever has.

him having an injury disrupted season,

season as a dud mainly due to injury.

Let's at lest stick to objective facts when we can.
He was injured for the month of October. That's it. Otherwise he made appearances in every month of the season, indicating that his problem wasn't injuries at all.

I think Son works far harder than Chadli ever has.
And he also shows far more blatant mistakes and shortcomings.

Guess there's always going to be that sect of fans (let's call them truthers for expediancy) who won't learn that players usually need time to get used to English football. They're getting quite loud in Son's case like they've been on other players too.

Oh my God I love going in circles.
Just because (insert name of your pet long-term player) benefitted from "time", doesn't mean that every player will always come good just given enough "time". Some players truly are just not good enough. I'd guesstimate that there is a 50/50 chance that an underpeforming player showing obvious flaws will improve from "time".
