I disagree. Richards is a liability. Not fit to lace Dawson's boots. He's so clumsy and appalling at positioning.

And what good is a 4th choice CB who is always injured (especially when our 2nd choice one - Kaboul - is too).

Not even on a free for me.

I think your basing this on his poorer performances. You could argue the clumsy and positioning case against a lot of defenders who are having a bad day. I think athleticism is one of the major qualities a defender needs to be a great player and Richards certainly has that in his locker! A team can obviously complement this with some more technical defenders (vertonghen and vlad) but usually a strong, powerful and quick backline get you out of trouble a lot of times across a season.

For this reason I'd replace Dawson with Richards any day of the week although we would miss his presence in the squad. A cb group of Vertonghen, Vlad, Kaboul and Richards is a great selection to chose from (be it we can get them all fit!)

Richards is City's Danny Rose. All the physical attributes, no concentration.
Wouldn't be adverse to the signing, we just need someone in the back line to step up and become the general.

I think Lloris has the qualities to organise the back 4. Hopefully Vertonghen stays and steps up his presence and shares the burden. I think Danny is a great backup option but if Fryers keeps on developing I'd let Danny go as Fryers is a bit more versatile.

Richards and Kaboul as the Beefcakes and Vertonghen and Vlad as the ball players works great for me!

Yahaya, who was standout performer as Nigeria won a record fourth FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year, has signed a pre-contract agreement with Spurs after shunning several other top clubs including Manchester City.

It was always spoken about as a loan to another club from us several months ago, from what I rememebr.

That's exactly what we need. But unless DL is paying top money for top defenders then it's unlikely. This is why i mentioned the other day we should spend big on our defence and worry about attacking options after. If we have a limited budget then sort the defence and stop conceding pathetic goals. Maybe add one attacking player depending on what transfers are available.

Richards is a good right back, like Walker, but wants to play centre back, where his terrible positioning, decision making and struggles against big front men make him a poor option.

It's fine saying those things can be improved by training, but he's not 21, he's 26, and those problems have persisted almost since he broke into the City team. Plus he has been very susceptible to injuries, and I'm not sure he has the mentality to really get his head down and work. Newcastle is a perfect fit for him, I think we should be aiming for better.

a bit more from atlanta yid responding to people seeing his itk as bad news, mostly opinion i guess:
I don't think that it is all bad we have the money to spend just have to wait until things fall into place.
Pretty sure we will fill up the gaps just might take a bit of time.
In my own opinion I don't see the point of wasting a shed load of money on more players when the manager hasn't had a chance to see what his got.

I suppose if you look at it as Richard's upgrade on Naughton and RB back up instead of Richards (upgrade) on Dawson and 4th back up it would become more palletable.

However I don't think this has any legs.

We were rumoured (quotes from his agent but nobody else) to have signed him on a pe-contract earlier this year and loaned him to Celta ?Vigo for the last couple of months of last season - I assume due to work permit issues although I could be wrong - so him going back to Celta Vigo makes swense.

He's got one full Nigerian cap, so I would hope he gets a few first teram outings at Celta Vigo plus playinmg in their develpment squad - which would be about as much as he could hope for at age 17.
