The same way he gave a damn about the league? Playing two of the slowest defenders high up the pitch no matter who the opposition, dropping the player who has been resurgent in our comeback, playing a central midfielder on the left wing constantly. Same guy that made us look like we couldn't be an under 7 girls team. Nice facts.
A Sunday League, blind, under 7s girl's B team, no less!

Ignoring the pitch
and sloppy defending
and poor passing
and poor finishing

the single most concerning thing, is we didn't look like we were playing as a unit. Attack as a unit, defend as a unit. You can play like Stoke or you can play like Barcelona but either way the team plays as a unit. We were disjointed as fuck

I think its the number of player changes that caused the problem, I am not saying it was wrong to do that, but its not so easy to get a good team performance from a group of strangers.

Im defending his EL record. Not his league record. He was abysmal in the league and deserved the boot for how badly we were doing

I think a lot of you probably underestimated dnipro. They are a very well drilled team under a strong tactical cup manager in a league which is very physical and technical.

They are readily competing in the league with champions league QF regulars in shaktar and dinamo kiev. We went there expecting a win and we got found out.

But in truth they have hardly kicked a ball competitively for near 2 months.

So what you are actually saying is thst they have had 2 months to prepare for this game wherein they would have probably played a number of friendly matches and had a lot of opportunities to analyse our game and figure out how to expose our weaknesses

No, they all went off on holidays then played a few friendlies against local teams to try and recover fitness. We were fully fit being midway through our season. Ramos and his scouts would have watched us but they could do that anyway.

Only Friedel and Naughton have been short of games this season in that side

So what you are saying is their players are completely fresh after a mid season break and have still had at least 6 weeks preparation time whereas we are in the tail end of a season and only just getting our players back from long term injuries.

There's always more than one way to look at a situation and I think we were beat by a very well drilled and prepared team.

I saw Baldini was there at the game, here's hoping he's there to strike a deal to sign konoplyanka in the summer :)

In all honestly, I'm hoping that our bad play was mainly due to the shoody pitch, and when we play at the lane, hopefully our quality will pull through.

Stopped watching at 55min and just checked the score.

Hate two legged ties, hate the Europa League and hate the fact we played football in Ukraine today.

Dawson and Vertonghen looked poor to me and Soldado was putrid again.

In fairness, the old school lax referee let the game flow by barely using his whistle. This resulted in the game becoming very end to end and I think it accentuated and partially caused us to look stretched and disjointed because it was so stretched.

Dnipro did a good job of being direct and getting the ball forward quicker under these conditions

Same thing happened against Anzhi away, dreadful pitch, dreadful game and our back line struggled with the bounce, different story at the lane where we looked comfortable on the ball.
Having said that i want to see a more organised approach, and a better work ethic from some of our players in the home leg.

We definitely overpaid for Soldado. He can have all the flicks and good link play in the world, but if you continue missing clearcut chances week in week out and scoring only 3 times in open play the entire season, youre not worth rm26mil.

Even if some will defend him by saying townsend didn't feed him or he didnt get much service, we paid 26mil for him FFS. At that price you would expect him to be able to MAKE his own chances! He wasn't bought for that kind of game you say? His 26mil was foro the goal poacher instincts you say? Then FFS score those clearcut chances!!

You see there is absolutely no way you can defend him, whichever angle you look at it from.

When we bought him, he was definitely worth around that sort of money
