More like we are in a Modric situation, as one ITKer has said. Bale does not want to play. So keep him away from the squad until the window shuts. If we get the fee that Levy and Lewis want, he will go. If not, he will stay.

You'd still expect Holtby, Capoue and Siggy to be above Carroll in the pecking order and occupying the bench spots so I still think a loan move for him is likely although I'd like to think we can recall him if necessary.

Interesting Andre seemingly doesn't rate Holtby.
Lots said he was an Andre signing, I still believe it was 100% committee, like all of our signings.
Holtby did struggle to bed in too and looked a bit lost at times. Didn't start a couple of matches he could have and now facing an uphill battle having missed preseason.
I think he has potential but like Siggy he may suffer insofar as he has no definitive position in our starting line up.

Modric 2012 or Modric 2011? I seem to remember that in 2011 he moaned to the press but actually played for us when called upon. In 2012 he was sold, of course.

If Bale is refusing to play for us then I don't see why we should be keeping that a secret.

Does he mean AVB doesn't rate Holtby - or is he talking about positions, 6= deep lying playmaker 10= playing behind the striker

After watching him closely while captaining the German under 21s this summer I still genuinely believe that he has a lot to offer us this season and has a technical quality and imagination with the ball that perhaps didn't shine through at the tail end of last season. H e also has a passion and exuberance while playing that you don't see in many ball playing midfielders.

Not sure about AVB but i know others at Spurs don't rate him.

But you don't become Germany U21 Captain for no reason.

Yep, this is how I see it. And it would be unusual for POTL to publically say it if AVB doesn't rate him.

I don't really see the comparison to the Modric situation. Unless you mean 2012, when he was sold. We forced Modric to play for us in 2011, even in friendlies.

In many ways Modric 2011 was in stark contrast to Bale 2013. He made it very clear he wante to leave, Bale is staying silent. Bale isn't playing for us at the moment, whereas Modric was on the pitch from pre-season onwards.

I'd like to keep Carroll in the squad but do a better job integrating him than we did with caulker. IMO we have no need for Erickson... well not until left back, back up striker and wing forward are sorted.

Holtby as a 6 seems reasonable to me.

Having reread it you might well be right.
Bit ambiguous though.
In fact hope you are right. The context of the other players isn't entirely helpful unless Andre sees it as he didn't need Hudd because he had Dembele/Holtby for the creative role.

So hard to read the squad at the moment when we don't know if we are going 433 or 4231 and we have a plethora of giants to shoehorn in.

agree with this, not sure he can handle the pace of the premiership...heard a few bundesliga teams sniffing around , wouldnt be surprised if he was offlaoded especially if erikssen comes in
