All the villa fans think he's the nuts. They say that they knew that barry and milner were overated when they were sold but that benteke would be worth every penny.

They've seen way more than me of him so i will trust their judgement. £18m with add ons should do.

Fair play to Villa, they're not fucking about here. Transfer request accepted and fee set. If we want him we know what we have to bid, if he's too expensive (which I suspect he is) then we move targets and sharpish.

I wonder if Levy has a good relationship with Randy Lerner ....

I never quite understand the idea of offering a player as a makeweight, unless he's hopeless and nobody wants him I guess, otherwise just buy a player then sell the one you've got to get the money back with the advantage that whoever buys him wants him so you most likely get a higher valuation.
Hope the chelsea quote is true as realistically its the only reason he'd choose us over them at the moment however much it might upset some people.

Does make me laugh that we're balking at a £25m fee for a 22-year-old striker who has scored 19 goals in his last two seasons, the last being the EPL, and who scores one in two for a very exciting national team but demanded £33m for a central midfielder who doesn't score and doesn't assist

I'm being facetious of course, but there's something kind of funny about Levy's financial demands for our players in comparison to what he's prepared to pay for others

If there wasn't we wouldn't be challenging for cl.

"Thinks he's not ready for" the inherent racism, backbiting, immaturity and knee-jerk reactionism that is part and parcel of "Chelsea."

Seems he feels 'owed', or has to make his own luck. Wonder if this attitude will change if he's at a big enough club or whether he will always be looking for the next move. Tweet 3 is a bit shitty by Standard.

1. If you want to know why Christian #Benteke is playing hardball, you'll have to look at his past. #AVFC #THFC

Kristof Terreur ‏@HLNinEngeland 2m
2. Standard forced #Benteke two times to go on loan, first to KV Kortrijk, then to KV Mechelen. #AVFC #THFC

3. In 2010 Benteke was loaned to Mechelen at the end of August, while the player was dreaming of a regular spot in Standard's first 11.#AVFC

4. #Benteke felt Standard was treating him as an animal. "They push me around like I'm an animal", he said at that time. #AVFC

5. At that moment, he decided that clubs wouldn't decide his future anymore, he wanted to decide himself. #AVFC

I wouldn't say kick as kick implies to do something intentionally, I think the word attempt needs to be added in there somewhere (y)

I don't think Levy has a good relationship with anyone he has ever negotiated with. I'm sure he wouldn't want it any other way ;)

Honestly, we get it, you don't agree with the Paulinho signing

And I think that is rather sad. Paulinho is a fantastic signing for us and he chose to come to us rather than following the money to Russia. Plus it is a massive a coup for us and helps to makes a little more attractive to high quality strikers we want to come to our club.

It is also a damning indictment on AVB and Baldini's by slating off the signing of Paulinho, give them a chance, they know what they want and what they need and they will get a suitable front line put together.

I am more confident this transfer window than I have been for a long long time and I actually think we have a big big budget and we will get the likes of Benteke and few others.

Levy runs a tight ship for a reason, if he is going to be spending big then that means we are getting the money from a source that is not going to put any pressure on the club financially. Possible from naming rights, increased TV revenue and the sale of players and freeing up of wages etc etc. The signing of Paulinho will absolutely no bearing what-so-ever on our ability to sign a striker.

I haven't watched a great deal of Benteke but he comes accross as a big lumbering forward IMO and not what we need.
Dare I say it, I think we need someone a bit more like Torres (with confidence) maybe.

1. So Aston Villa want £25M for #Benteke, the striker has rejected Liverpool en only wants to join Spurs ... #AVFC

2. #Benteke's agent Kismet Eris about his player joining Chelsea: "He'd rather go to Turkse Rangers (Belg.amateur team) than joining #CFC."

Benteke isn't all bad then!

buy that man a drink :)

We need a striker that can score goals, benteke looks like he can do that and more.

Then we need a time machine to get that Torres, the one from a season before he left Liverpool.

Benteke is more than just a Heskey type (Benteskey!!), although it's easy to see why you'd think that. I did as well, right up until the last month of the season. Take a look at some of the goals he has scored, there is way more finesse there than just size and power. With better players around him to develop, he'll get better and better. Villa were crap for most of the season but he did well alongside the smaller/faster Weimann.
