There is no way that Benteke is worth £25m let alone £28m but its pointless comparing him to certain more "elite" players. These players won't come to us, Benteke will.

So we have a choice of paying slightly over market value for a player that would be happy to come and be an improvement to our squad (say £20m for Benteke) or chase the Higuains and Jovetics of this world who are more worthy of the money but will reject us.

Paying over market value as a general rule is not a good idea (hi scousers) but sometimes its necessary in order to get where you want.

I think you should change this to IF. At the end of the day we have no idea if Benteke is even on the list

Top post IMO. Nail on head. Its who you can get and we won't get better than Benteke IMO.

Just logged in after a day in the Bavarian mountains! Frustrates by POTL's post in that he doesn't expect anything to happen quickly re : striker.

Obviously we though Villa was ours, but what we need to do now is quickly and efficiently get moving on our next targets. Boys are back training, season starts in 5ish weeks - we need to learn from last season and others that poor preparation costs us. Hopefully we won't have up be too patient and Levy, Franco and co will move v quickly.

Strange vibe today. Maybe it's the sun. A bit of perspective needed. Just imagine for a moment that you don't read anything from "ITKs", and all you hear is what's in the news.

What has happened so far? The window has been open for a week or so, we have signed a superb Brazilian international midfielder and missed out on Villa because he wanted to stay in Spain. And now we are in the race to sign Benteke.

This still to me sounds exciting and very positive. So much time left in the window.

The other thing I have to disagree with is the notion that there are only a few strikers out there available. Just because a few have been mentioned as available doesn't mean that is all. Wouldn't be surprised to see a left field signing that noone hears about.

Swindon OS also announced it today aswell though. I think im right in saying it was agreed to be a loan doal was it not? which has now been turned into a permanent, I could be wrong though (i'm not talking about last seasons loan deal). Seems to tie in with what LLM said about Swindon having a good relationship with us
