Like I have said before, Defoe will have a list of suitors willing to match our valuation, whereas Ade's opportunities will be far more limited due to the clubs he will be willing to move to and the wage demands he will have. Also by the end of last season AVB was picking Ade over Defoe so I think it will be Defoe who leaves.
I'd be happy for us to get rid of both, well if it wasn't for the mission impossible we find ourselves in when we try to sign a striker

Some interesting info coming out, and I'm trying to process how much of it I believe. Find it hard to believe we'd sign more than one of Leandro, villa and soldado so can only assume the itk suggesting variously that levy wants all of them means they're options on a list. Secondly, if we're trying to do things early and have this established of targets (mostly portuguese, brazilian and spanish players, so likely to be avb and levy's men) then ehats baldini coming to do?

My guess is we're going for Leandro for #9, with Soldado as back-up. And Villa for left inside forward, with Aubameyang as back-up. Then we'll not buy a more traditional wide player

Re Baldini, I'd say he's more here to:

i) bring over unknown teenagers from Brazil/Argentina/Italy - like he did with Higuain, Gago, Lamela, Samuel, De Rossi and Cassano

ii) negotiate deals (in place of Levy) for top players - like he did with Batistuta, Guardiola, Cannavaro and RvN.

Like many others I'm sure, I hope one of the unknown players is Bernard. Then for the other 3 I'd love Shaw. The other 2 I don't really know but people on here seem to like can and rebic so I'll just say that 2. ;-) As for the established we already know one is Villa which is good because of his quality, experience and medium price tag of around £11m. Then guessing the price of the others: Bernard(£14m) Shaw(£10m up front) Can(I think a loan was bizarrely quoted from am ITK the other day) then Rebic(£3m?) this all adds up to £38m which considering we spent around £55m last year and this year I'd more important makes me believe it could leave room for a newnumber #9 in the form of LD or Soldado. Both would cost between £15m-£20m) again spending around £55m. Wow what a window that would and hopefully WILL be! As well as stadium naming rights confirmation and a new Bale contract! BEAUTIFUL! Here's to wishful thinking!

Loving being linked with upcoming youth players... That's the model we should strive for, buy before they are discovered... Think how good a time we could of had if we took all those risks in the past?

Siggy ain't going anywhere, nor Townsend & I think striker wise it'll probably be Ade to go though I'd far prefer to ship on Defoe. Although he's probably more acclimatised to bench warming & league cup games.

Re: strikers, it's really not adding up. Damaio can be presumed one they all want, yet we have offers for Villa? And genuine interest in Soldado? We can't pursue everyone... Bit quiet on midfielders?

Guess it's a lot a talk & not much concrete at the minute.

I think, if we do actually sign a quality striker (or 2?) Defoe will actually be requesting a move by January, if not before the end of August (assuming we do business early). Only yesterday he was telling the worlds press that he will "work as hard as possible & do whatever it takes to ensure I'm on the flight to Brazil next summer".... He won't be able to do any of that from the bench.

I wouldn't. Ade is a very valuable player for us and when on form there aren't many better. Also the guy has had two seasons with us, 1 was exception and one finished strongly.

I'm thinking Bruma, a real talent, or possibly Eric Drier.

We were linked with him back in 2010 when he was a 15 year old kid...

Sporting Lisbon looked to have pipped Manchester City and Chelsea to teenage star Bruma (right) with the 15-year-old poised to sign a professional contract on Monday.
Tottenham were also interested but now Sporting have persuaded the Guinea-born starlet to sign a five-year contract which includes a release clause of more than £17.6million.

He said: 'My dream is to reach the first team at Sporting.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1322964/Spurs-Chelsea-City-lose-race-sign-starlet-Bruma.html

Nail on the head though 'when on form'.

Perhaps this is the season where Levy gets Lewis to dip into his wallet and take a hit - pretty sure it can't happen any time further into the future due to FFP. This is the window to make the big deals (as Real, Monaco, etc are showing).

Agreed. I also think he had a lot more problems with injuries last season than we realised.

I very much doubt he'll be selected anyway. Seems Woy Hodgson likes (prefers?) Sturridge, rooney, Welbeck & probably even Carroll too. Add young Sterling to that list aswell (he'll have a good season next season) and Walcott could also be playing more central by then aswell. I may be being harsh on Defoe, but I think those younger strikers are Woy's preferred choices.

We'd still have 3 months to get a replacement. Plus Defoe's price will drop a tad if QPR/Fulham/Palace or whoever know we're overloaded and need to sell.

Personally I think Leandro will arrive this week anyway.

I don't think Defoe would want to go to QPR having been relegated. He is still an England International and any of the 3 promoted teams could well be interested in signing him, in addition to Fulham and any number of the other mid-table teams. Also having been home grown would add to the price, we've all seen ridiculous prices being paid for average strikers so I see no reason why we couldn't get £10m or more for him.

chris rather than constantly disagreeing about Ade it would be nice for you to actually enter the debate, and tell me why you believe I am wrong.

Simply because he's 31. I doubt Villa (who is the same age, and relies far less on his pace) will end up costing £10m, and he's genuinely word class.

£4-5m would be a fair price for Defoe IMO.
