Read the cryptic carefully from post 1, it should be clear and many of you have called it bang on.

What did everyone think the cryptic was referring to?

Everyone saying we're challenging for top 4 regularly. You should really be calling it top 3 barring an exodus of players. COYS

We wouldn't raise our wage structure based off one season in the CL surely? So realistically our targets do not change drastically. As many have said, anyone that is going to pick us over another club in the CL is likely to demand too high wages in the first place. The only issue really is retaining key players...

Signing Verts and Leandro nice and early would be a real statement of intent.

Please. Please. Plleeeeeeaaaassse.

We could desperately do with some positive news. My head still feels like it is going to cave in.

Yeah, I missed that one. I guessed Remy for the French Fries bit, but couldn't think of any German players we'd been solidly linked with recently.

Targets won't change but targets' willingness to come might but then again...
Realistically, there's only about 20 clubs in world football that could be considered preferable to a potential player than us and that total would halve if we were in the Champions League.

Bit of loose maths: say each of those 20 clubs wants 3 new players, there's 11 places in a first team = 60 players get a big move divide by their positions, there's only say 4/5 potential clubs that any aspiring player can join. Realistically, we're in the 2nd tier of pulling power with our league, style of football, capital city location all a big pull and obviously wages and no Champions League a negative.
Good players in OK teams are therefore very achievable; people like Vertonghen or Remy are well achievable; even with Vertonghen seeming a coup.

There's only so many players to go round and with the economic climate reducing the paying power of all but the Chelseas and Man Citys of the world, we've a few quid in the bank and an excellent chance of picking up players that we want.
Unless we're shooting for the stars (like Hazard) and then we'll get done.

I've come out of my Keith Houchen-style fug, and i'm optimistic.

Not sure it's a statement of intent, but a step in the right direction.

We'll need 5 signings like that to get back on our feet after the loss of Modric.

POTL's good at these slightly intangible, vague assurances at the end of a season or at the end of a window that 'everything's going to be OK'. He often contributes a roundup at the end of a transfer window that points to a brighter future and a long-term strategy and big signings next time. It's the one thing that's always made me wonder if he or she works at the club, in the communications department, for example.

I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that POTL is Daniel Levy. And I'm being serious!
