Unless we are prepared to accept making some losses on some of our deadwood, we will be unable to ship out players.
This will be the only way to free up squad places and get some players off the wage bill. I am as frustrated as any of you that we have not yet made any signing of note, but on the other hand, I can understand DL and the powers that be in trying to offload first.
We have far too many players on our books ATM and economically that can't be good. We all need to be patient, have faith and believe in DL. He knows as much as, and surely even more than us, that we need to strengthen the squad. I am sure he will not fail in this task. He is Tottenham through and through, loves the Club as much as any of the greatest fan as you may find. He wants us to succeed as much as any one of us, of that I have no doubt at all.

fourth_official is occasionally misinformed, but I don't think he's out to wind people up deliberately. Also, he's a Spurs fan, so I'm willing to hear him out... I posted because it backed up some ITK we had (from Brownhead I think) a day or two ago...

I don't know why everyone is so keen to get rid of Jenas. We're unlikely to get a better quality 4th/5th choice cm than him.

Absolutely there are a lot of players I would want to see leave because they have been either poor, too expensive to be sitting on our bench or because they want to go.
Jenas would be well down the list probably at around 10/11.

Not much, but as it's quiet might as well post some small bits of info from Archie on SO.

and on the Modric situation, he has just said:

It isnt great but it isnt gonna be yet.... its still fresh.. give it a week or two and hopefully will be fine- he is a professional though and is training well

It's also about wages. The top 6 teams don't want our players and I doubt the bottom 6 could afford their wages. That leaves Everton, Villa, Blackburn, Newcastle and Sunderland as the only teams that might actually buy them (Fulhams wage cap is 45k), and are they actually that much better than what they have or can they get cheaper younger alternatives.

As I said earlier we already have 6 (International) strikers on our books. We need to unload before we can buy. That leaves us in a catch 22, unless we want to pay part of their wages.

Jenas should want to, his career has stalled big time. Plays maybe once in 5 games. Shows his character to me, happy to pick up his wage but never play. Fair enough but if I were a pro I'd want to play every game

Clearly we're gonna be taking a hefty loss here. Bought for £9M, sold for - what? - £5M?. £4M out of pocket and he only played about 50 games for us... Poor.

Levy can't win. Set a high price and he is in the wrong for trying to screw the life out of the suitors for every last penny.

Sell low and he is an idiot.

Plus how much of the £9m did we pay for Hutton? Just like I'd wager we did not pay £16.5m for Bent or £17m for Bentley.

On misc signings:

Sunderland seem to be doing it quite easily! Lol[/quote]

Bet then who else wanted average turd like Wes Brown, John O'Shit and David Vaughan?

he's 5th choice at the age of 27

he has no future at the club, therefore he should move on

I think the biggest issue was that our loaned out players didn't really impress. O'Hara was probably the only loaned out player who did a decent job, and he is the one we've sold. Hutton just hasn't done anything to turn heads in the Premier League. Bentley did very little at Birmingham to warrant a reasonable transfer fee. Giovani Dos Santos has failed to live up to the hype wherever he has been loaned. Keane didn't do much at West Ham either, just the odd goal really.

The purpose of loaning these players was to get them in the shop window and receive some bids. Unfortunately it just hasn't worked out that way and our players valuations have decreased as a result. We don't have much choice but to take it on the chin now. We can't really keep loaning these players out, because there's every chance their valuation will continue to fall.

We may take a hit on a few players, but I think we can continue to find a few bargains too. So it should balance itself out.

If anything it has gone up, not down.

Not for Hutton.

He was flavour of the moment in scotland at that time, the scottish cafu, I think his value and standing has gone down since then?
Injuries may not have helped his cause though

Backs up some ITK and other whispers that have been knocking around.

Were not making that much of a loss because we got a bit of money from sunderland when they had him on loan
