The game is about glory. I am sure you know Danny Blanchflower's famous quote. Glenn Hoddle's game was about glory, he didn't want to bore the opposition to death, he did things with a flourish.Everyone picking Hoddle.
I just missed his time, have seen highlights etc but people picking him what was it about him or his play that made everyone love him so much?
And is he our best midfielder ever?
He was one of our own, he played for us for 12 years. We spent the 1977-78 season in the old second division. We were promoted back to the first division at the first attempt - just. We were third and only just, our promotion was decided on goal difference. Without Hoddle we wouldn't have been promoted. I don't like to think what would have happened if we had stayed down. And he was 20 years old.
I go back to 1961, 60 years a supporter. Most of my other favourite players predate Hoddle. But in a team of my favourite players over those 60 years his would be the first name on the team sheet.
