what has robbie keane done to deserve losing the captaincy?

he's always been fully committed to us and a model professional.
we've also always heard good things such as how important a character he is in the dressing room: didn't either hutton or woodgate say how robbie was helping them fit in to the club when they first moved here?

that for me in addition to leading by example is all you really need from a captain: (he's obviously done a decent job to be awarded the very prestigious SC Player Of The Year!). Vocal leadership can come from other people on the pitch, such as Woodgate.

I think Wooy would make a great captian, should Ledley not be around next season.

Asto 'what has Keane done wrong' i would suggst nothing. I am just not sure about his Leadership qualities. I also think that defenders, Midfielders make better captains, with thegame going on infront of them. Shoot me down if you will but that my view!!! :hello:

i agree about defenders and midfielders making better captains, but i do think the role of a captain is overrated.

i think robbie is a great captain because as i said before he is a great professional and has been at the club longer than anyone other than ledley.
i also think players look up to him and he takes care of the others which is another great trait.

woody would make a great captain, but i couldn't see him as being as open with everyone as robbie would, and that's also to do with him only being here since january. and you can still have leadership on the pitch but it doesn't have to be exclusive to the captain.

Not that he deserves to lose it, but I have never liked the idea of him being captian as a centre forward. I dont think centre fowards should be captiains but its just a personal opinion. However as you have stated above, he has all the attributes and qualities that make a good captain.

What has Robbie done to deserve loosing Captaincy, for me the same as he did to deserve getting it in the first place, nothing.

He is really only the Captain due to his time at the club and Ledley not being fit.

Yeh ok he is good at getting the team spirit up, but it is really wrong for a Stiker to be Captain, mostly because it means that week in week out you pretty much have to play him, as he is captain, regardless of his form. This is less of a problem elsewhere in the pitch as you have 3 other players in that area, but for me it was part of the reason why defoe didn't get many starts this season, because you can't drop Berba as he is awesome, and you can't drop Keane as he is captain.

Also i think Captains lead better from the back. And we can't really continue with Ledley as first choice captain - he is always injured, which means that the person who is acting captain doesn't feel like he was first choice and so likely doesn't get as much respect because of it.

King should never ever have been captain for me... of course he is/was a great player and leads by example, but for me a captain should be very vocal, and literally dragging his team along when they are up against it. i didn't like vinnie jones as a player but that's the kind of thing we need (vocally , not kicking people)..

if teemu tainio was able to keep himself fit and was one of ramos' bullet proof players,
he should be captain. in the current state of affairs i would pick zokora , but his english is crap. wooders could be captain once he shows he is consistently fit and has been around a while, and hutton too could take it on once he settled in but he needs to lose the attitude.

keane should forever be vice-captain and captain only in event of injury, i don't believe forwards should be captains..
