Bale cost £85M a few years ago, before TV money nearly tripled. He’d be worth £200M now (at the age he was when we sold him). Coutinho just went for £130M last window. Mitrovic (flopped in prem with Geordies just went to Fulham for £20-25M. An average perm player will cost £30M+. Spending ~£60-70M on a Zaha or a Martial is pretty good value in today’s market. I suspect if the financials don’t add up is because a new signing would want parity with Kane and that ain’t gonna happen on Levy’s watch unless we sign a proper top drawer galatico (like Bale, which ain’t happening anytime soon!).

Part of me thinks if Poch is unhappy a day or two before the deadline, then maybe he'll panic.

99% of me thinks no
It would be the biggest deal we've done since Klinsmann in terms of player profile (Martial). We may well want him but doing enough lavashing of cash and schmoozing of agent/player is highly unlikely when you look at our transfer history under Levy.

No, but he will try as long as they want Toby. If they buy a defender then this deal is completely off. I can see it going down to deadline day.
Then we'ĺl lose the Zaha deal too because CP will tell us to do one if we leave it that late. They will need time to get replacements.

I'm sure you completely right. But I feel like Martial is the apple we want most And their interest in Toby makes this a little too tantalising for Levy.

Didn't Hercules say we had a deadline on that deal so CP could have adequate time to replace and rebuild?

Said Parish wanted it done within a week. Don’t remember when exactly he posted that....last Wednesday?

Don't know but if you remember the last time we tried to sign Zaha? Parish basically said even if we made a silly offer he couldn't have accepted because they had no time to get replacements.

No media has picked up on the "bids accepted" by us and Chelsea. There is no way it would remain a secret from them this many days since we got the ITK.

Im starting to think a lot of the ITK's info they get passed is coming from club PR channels now. This is not a dig at any ITK but a reason why we may hear amazing things and then nothing happens.

Im still praying Zaha comes off but it looks as likely as Messi coming to Spurs atm.

From what I can see JJ hasn't said this isn't a goer and Zaha hasn't signed for Chelsea yet. So in my mind that means there is still a chance we might sign him. A small chance. But still a chance.

In fact, I think this it is all linked to the Toby to Man U deal. We're using it as a carrot to try and force them to sell us Martial. This seems to be ongoing. If it gets the point that it definitely doesn't look like happening then I can see Levy biting the bullet and over paying for Zaha. Just a theory but I feel like there is a connection.

Maybe I am crazy but if the club wanted to build the hopes up of their millions of social media followers I doubt they would leak all this information through their PR team to a bunch of ITKs on a (popular but let's be real not THAT popular) Spurs forum and to their few thousand twitter followers. There is no gain in it for them. They could easily leak it to any of the dozen or so press outlets and you can generally tell when that happens.

JJ said a deal for Zaha was “unlikely” about a week ago

I don't think it was an official 'in writing' kind of offer - probably just informal chats with representatives from both clubs.

Most ITK is shared across all fans forums which are read by the majority of those who pay to watch us play (e.g. season ticket holders and members). Search back through ITK the weeks before season ticket prices are announced each year and there is normally very positive news in regards to the forthcoming transfer window. I know all ITK posted is in good faith, but discounting the club using some of these snippets as PR channels would be naive.
