great result for us tonight without even kicking a ball
i honestly would want any team other than liverpool to finish 4th if we was not able to ... i have disliked them and there plastic cockney fans ever since the boring 80s when they won everything playing negative football

Snap! People always seem confused as to why i have an intense dislike of Liverpool....like you, my hatred stems from the 80's when they used to bore the shit out of me year after year.

I really, really don't want City to finish in the top 4, it will only legitimise their artificial money injected status, and they could then attract anyone with the lure of the CL. It would be bad for us and bad for the game.

I would have no problem Villa getting there, because they would have done it properly and deserve the chance of a CL campaign. I really don't have anything against Villa at all, and see them as quite similar to us.

As for Liverpool, I don't really like them but I can tolerate them finishing 4th mainly because I'm used to it.

I would put City as favourites now, unfortunately, and us probably 2nd - but if we don't beat Blackburn, it all changes again - it's excruciatingly even.

Yeah if shitty get there they won't look back and will be in for the title next season unfortunately they are the richest team in the world and will get there sooner or later. It will be funny watching the scousers fall apart though. I truely will enjoy that. Hopefully it'll be us or Villa to slow the shitty money machine down. Reckon they'll give Mancini the boot if he falls short of 4th.

Even though I don't want Liverpool to finish 4th the thought of City finishing 4th is probably worse. My concern is a team finishes 4th and that cements them above us. If Liverpool do it, it won't change a thing but if Villa do it they could become more successuful than Liverpool.

I think it was a result that was on the cards

Liverpool were awful at home to Blackburn and could have lost it, if Blackburn's shooting was better and Robinson didn't have a spac-attack

Man City are still our main rivals, with Villa a close second

They need to start dropping points sharpish

I think if Spurs invest wisely and focus on 'consistently' beating teams below them, then I think we'll fare well in seasons to come, even if City spend millions and millions

It'll also take City a few years to 'blend' a team into title-challengers. Stability will be the first ingredient, which they haven't delivered to their fans yet

well said about boring pool - if i can give rep to the astute people who have mentioned it - i will

the ridiculous over glamourisation of the stuff that pool used to regularly serve up in the 80s has always astounded me - well it hasn't to be fair, but that's another story about most football fans

time and again pool would do the 'let's keep the crowd quiet for 30 mins (it was often 90) they'll all fall asleep ...

and all that pass and move stuff - very nice, very professional but so dull the way they did it- add in the fouling from souness, case, mcmahon, dalglish and co and no way will they ever compare to man u over they years for me, in terms of entertainment, no matter how many bloody trophies they won

their most exciting player was their keeper

i'll be honest give me the 60s spurs team despite our relative lack of success to the 80s pool team - but that is pushing bias too far i accept

but the ridiculous canonisation of that so often dull, nasty, team has always depressed me

those european cup finals they won 1-0, boring

their first was great in the 70s and the last was great in the 21st century - but the ones in between, together with the dull dull forest and villa wins - well they massively damaged the Europen Cup as a spectacle

They payed a boring game against City, and the stats show no shot on target in this game!!

Though we lose to teams at home that they may beat home and away so we cant laugh too hard

Obviously a great result for us but we're still going to have to pull one or two rabbits out the hat in the run in, as a consequence of our 'upset' results (Stoke, Hull, Wolves II). I still think we need a win at Stoke &/or Sunderland and probably a win at home to Chelsea &/or Arsenal.

McCarthy looked interesting; full of energy, composed, a young version of Gerrard (who didn't seem to like being shown up once or twice).

Who do we want to finish 4th if we can't? Man City wouldn't be great but I don't think it would affect their approach in the summer which will be to throw loads of money at big names. Would Torres/Kaka/Ribery join them for £200k a week but Europa League football.....?
Liverpool will probably lose Torres (and maybe Gerrard) if they fail and that makes them weaker over the longer term.
I'd still personally rather City than Liverpool; City want Champs Lge football whereas Liverpool NEED it, desperately!!

Brilliant! Good that Liverpool have now played one more than us and are still below us. :)

This is the kind of result that will give me more confidence about our top 4 aspirations. It just proves that there aren't really many 3 point bankers..But a long way to go still!

Which is the point, really, that I keep on making:up:

Completely forgot they were playing tonight. Great result

How could you? By some strange quirk I get Liverpoool TV for free on FreeSat - so I deprive myself of knowing the results and then watch them as if live - and it ain't much of a surprise to me. This is not a good Liverpool team, and, despite having a few chances themselves, they could have easily finsihed two or three down.

Pay attneion, or you may miss it:wink:

i'd rather pool, because i don't want city or villa establishing themselves above us as the 5th biggest/most succesful club in england - but i do understand those who want pool to fail

imagine if pool finished 7th and got no euro footy it could really cripple them

the only reason rafa is still there is they can't afford to fire him as the compensation would be huge

there's already rumblings of shity going in for Gerrard and Torres for 100 odd mil so they could really be fucked

only problem is if shity do get it which is the most likely scenario then they've got the money and the CL lure to really establish themselves as title contenders

then you got to look at the scum and the fabregas situation, he's most likely off to Barca this summer which will weaken them big time, far more so than when henry left

it's got to be us or Villa but if not then next season a fab less scum could suffer we just need to keep this lot together and add afew more quality players one in CM and one up front

I think we need to beat sunderland and stoke, in fact I think we'll need 71 points

Agreed. A win today would still have kept them in the title race and given them more to play for against City. As it stands now they've got nothing to play for. No chance of competing for the title and no chance of finishing lower than third.

Won't slate you as it's more important to look at what benefits us rather than what effects Arsenal. But hopefully it'll motivate them to put things right rather than lose confidence.

I also wanted arsenal to win for the same reasons. A draw at worst. Will they put up a fight next week?

Still at this rate we'll be 3rd and Wenger will be sacked so maybe it's not all bad
