The problem isn't about why this partnership ended ..

the problem is why Tainio is treated as Fullback more than CM ?
the problem is who was used to play instead of him ?

still sad for TT, The CM signing policy and giving his best where asked meaning it would be hard for him to play in his natural position here Whatever if it was MJ or JR ....

This is a very important point which has been expressed by some of us for quite some time, but is very well articulated here by spursgirl21.

It's not simply a case of who appears to be the more gifted player of Tainio and Zokora. It's a case of what they bring to the team. Tainio's discipline and excellent positional sense in the C/DM role make our entire midfield relax and play better.

But this debate will be irrelevant come the summer because the two positions where Juande will definitely strengthen are GK and CM.

Thanks:grin:, glad what i wrote made sense. I agree with your comment about TT's postional sense something that I forgot to mention. I also agree with you i think the situation will be irrelevant come the summer, DZ will leave and sadly so will Teemu therefore we will be discussing who out of the new midfielders that we buy in the summer will work well with JJ .

I think it can be summed up, without meaning to second guess Wendy, bless her, in that it was decided we were going to go out with an attacking formation. We had, what was considered by many fans, our "best" side available starting.

If we were looking to defend then it wouldn't have surprised me to see Zoko or JJ come off at some point and TT to come on to pounce on anyone who grazes past the halfway line (which he is very good at, imo) but we went out attacking and as soon as we went a goal behind and didn't change our style or formation then TT wasn't going to get the nod ahead of Zoko.

Who knows - we appear to be having a bit of a rotate whilst the injuries are still affecting us but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see TT start in the middle for the second leg.

I will be a happy man when Zokora is sold and we can bring someone better in. Hopefully we can recoup some of the money we paid for him. He has been a terrible signing in my opinion, gets bipassed nonstop and the only we he seems to be able to break up the opponents attack is to commit a foul.

I seriously doubt he will ever be good enough for our team and I think it was a mistake to sign him (especially for the money he cost).

Where is Spursking when you need him to tell us what a maestro Zokora is and how its all about team building? So its not that Zokora is shit its just that the team hasnt been built around him as it should have been.

In my eyes anyway, Zokora is ineffective as a defensive midfileder as he has poor postioning and gets bipassed frequently. Going forward all he seems to offer is the odd eye catching run which almost always results in nothing (he has no goals and I would assume a similar amount of assists.)

I hope we cut our losses with him in the summer and move him back to France or where ever we can offload him. Im sure Ramos can replace him with someone of superior quality without too much trouble.

He has at least one assist (wow), for JJ's goal away to Slavia Prague last season. Magnificent run where he actually passed to Jenas as he was tackled. JJ promptly wacked it into the net.

But I do agree with the sentiment of your post, only I wouldn't be quite as harsh. He isn't good enough.

Zakora is SH1T, he makes me want to throw up every time I see his stupid face, after making another cock up. He shouldnt even be in the side, he belongs with Stoke, or Orient.

He is useless, GOD!!!! Why is he always played? yesterday I felt like pulling my hair out watching him do nothing all game.

Gilberto made a mistake, but anyone notice how Zakora was involved in almost every Spurs cock up?

He must be giving Ramos some very effective blow jobs to warrant inclusion!

you mug - your opinion counts for nothing when you consisently can't even spell the player's simple name... back to school

DT, how long since you left this thread?

We understand you don't like him but sitting here sniping at every post that comes up with a convincing argument, firing off a pointless insult, isn't proving anything.

Zokora is obviously, like Lee, Teemu, Chimbonda, Kaboul & Robbo, a player that splits the opinion of a few fans - are you going to tell me that you are that astute a judge of our team that you've never had your mind changed, by someone you previously discounted finding form? Rubbish - initially i was preparing to discard Zokora and i could be found often picking apart his poor performances, but it's that perpective that i think allowed me to notice his pace pick up as Ramos started using him more defensively and, in the games he started before the ANC *sighs as he says this AGAIN without any acknowledgement from the Zoko-haters* he was having a few really convincing shows, at times saving us as the oppo went on the break, yada yada yada...

To blindly write off a player who has been here less than 2 years just says to me you are a perfect example of the fickle, impatient, tantrum throwing fan of modern times.

Well, unfortunately I have other stuff to do than sit for hours uninterrupted replying to posts. Therefore I am often playing catch up especially if I disagree with posts on a thread I started.

But in response to your post I am not being fickle. With someone like Kaboul I can see that he is young and often reckless but the potental is there. I can see potential in Ohara too though he has a lot to learn. But Zokora is what, 27 ? I think 2 years is more than enough time to assess him and I don't think he is suddenly going to learn how to play a killer pass, tackle effectively or shoot. So what if he is athletic ? He has to know what to do with the ball when he gets it , how to time his tackles without giving away suicidal free kicks etc etc etc.

But the main point of this thread was to bemoan the fact that Tainio is not being given the chance to form a partnership with Jenas which many of us cannot understand. The fact is that in a poll ran on here in the last couple of days the overwhelming majority of us thought Tainio was the best choice for that position whereas only 8 % of us thought it should be Zokora. But since Zokora is the man in possession obviously comparisons are made as to the merits of each player. And for me there is only 1 winner.

Would Zokora's 'defenders' please mind telling me what he actually does?
Never delivers when attacking, pulls the shape of the team everywhere as a DM, his only good performances have come at CB IMHO...great athelete, one of the best I've seen, a decent player with regards to touch and movement but absolutely no football brain whatsoever...

Read both pages of the thread, and the other threads bemoaning Zokoras ability, there's plenty of details of what he actually does. :|

What did Drogba achieve in his first season in English football? Not much, cept to earn himself a load of enemies, claiming he blew goats, part time, and was a complete waste of money. it took him over eighteen months before he started firing on all cylinders, on a consistent enough basis for him to be accepted as a world class striker.

The EPL is acres and acres away from all the other European leagues - the players who come here always comment on the pace and aggression of the English game. It takes time for a player to fit in over here but, we've seen what can be gained if a little patience is applied and the player actually given the chance to not only get used to their new environment, but to excel in it.

Agree, the thread isn't about 'dissing' Zokora it's about they reasons why the TT and JJ partnership has been broken up and of course in the topic you have to mention DZ becuase rightly or wrongly he is part of the reason the partnership has stopped as the player that has been playing ahead or Tainio, and football isn't football if you don;t compare players ablities and discuss what they bring to our team. Everyone see's situations differently and although by the poll that was done a lot of people share the same views.

yes, the JJ/TT thing worked against the Woolwich, but they play a different style to Brum & PSV, so i guess Wendy figured that playing a flat four, with Zokora and JJ both staying narrow, would be the best option.

Seems it wasn't.

Well, that was dull :(
